I played The Forest a couple days ago with some friends, the game is very immersive and I also played and finished it in VR. Since the new one is coming out I thought I'll leave a review on this one and look back on it and see how they've improved from the first game. Here's my honest review on The Forest:

I'll keep it as spoiler-free as possible, only really describing the world and the enemies. Nothing to do with the story. To begin, the world is simply beautiful. Even when it's not on the highest settings. I found myself stopping and having a look around me in this beautiful landscape. It's truly something you can be stuck in for hours on end. They nailed the ambient noises you can hear around you; the tapping of the rain on the leaves above you while your feet can be heard stomping through the mud. Immersion was nailed in this, especially in the VR version of the game. I've never played it on desktop, but I probably never will due to how immersed I was in the VR mode.

The base building is simplistic but makes your mind run wild, although this depends if you choose a pre-built log cabin or if you build your own fortress. Your imagination is however big you allow it to be in this game; of course though, you need to get resources for these structures you build. Which is simple and not too tedious. Your best friends through this game will be logs. Although make sure to add traps around your base, they'll come for it.

The only enemies in this game are the cannibals and mutants. The cannibals are gonna be the first enemies you encounter, agile strong beasts. You're character isn't exactly qualified for melee combat so you'll probably be just swinging your axe until the cannibal drops dead. Works 9/10 times. The other enemies are the mutants which come a bit later in the game when you're more used to the environment and have a base to at least sleep in. They are strong, very strong. Not too hard to take out when they're by themself. But with other mutants and cannibals by their side, you are going to have a hard time.

You need to take care of yourself in this game, if that wasn't obvious enough. This is a survival horror game. You need to sustain clean water from a rain collector. And get food from animals, and make sure to eat it quick so it doesn't go spoilt. I'm sure there's some way to make it last longer, I never found out. I never found it but apparently there's a sanity meter and more in depth stats for your player. This could come in handy but as I said, never found a use for it.

Another good feature is the co-op feature. Honestly one of the most funnest and joyful video game experiences of my life. It all depends on who you play with. The game is fun with either 4 other people or just 1. I hope to play this with friends again.

There's a lot of flaws as well with the game, like some bugs. One bug is where you're carrying logs in a cart and it sends you flying up, watched it happen to my friend. Another is being downed in water. You can't even get your friends up while they're in. Probably intentional but I doubt they'll work on this game after the sequel so not much point complaining on any of the bugs I've encountered in the game.

I could go on for a lot longer on goods and bads. But I don't want to make this too long. So my overall opinion on the forest is that it's a great pickup. Either solo or with friends.

8/10

This game was fun, but I can't recommend the game to a VR fan,

I love zombie/horror vr games. But this is just too buggy for me. Got to the 2nd chapter and had to stop because I couldn't put [REDACTED] in the bag and I was too motion sick. I had never been motion sick in VR since espire 1. And that was when I first got VR. The game, has potential. But I seriously can't give it a good rating because of the game breaking bug's it has. If you wan't a good immersive zombie VR experience, get Arizona Sunshine.

I will definetly pick up this game in the future, maybe when some bug's have been fixed. I only have 1 more thing to say

FIX THE INVENTORY SYSTEM
