The fact that War Thunder is free is honestly pretty amazing. This game is well-designed with all sorts of players in mind, and they accomodate each of them nicely with different modes.

The mode that I think sets this game apart...Arcade mode. Arcade mode lets you reload your weapons mid-air, repair your aircraft in under a minute and has the BEST mouse and keyboard controls of any flight game I've ever played. You can freely choose any of the modes at any time, meaning this can be a casual airplane shooter on arcade mode, or a hardcore combat flight simulator where you can strap on an Oculus Rift, grab your HOTAS, and spend an afternoon feeling what it was like to be a pre-war or even a Cold-War fighter or bomber pilot.

Full real mode, where you are allowed cockpit view only and have full simulation physics is for the hardcore flight simulator fans, Historical Battle mode for those who like the simulation feel, but might not have the time, or might feel like using the chase camera. These give the old weirdos that played Microsoft Flight Simulator (like me) something to do as well!

Now...put that in together with the fact that they are building in gameplay that includes tanks AND warships of the same time period AND IN THE SAME GAME MODES and you have got yourself a winner.
