TLDR: I played almost 5 hours on launch day. I bought this not for the melee mechanics, as the game mechanics favour ranged action, but for the Hatchetman, as it is one of my favourite mechs. I started a new unmodded game and got through to the 3rd mission in the new five mission set, and it kept crashing. I also tried playing from an old unmodded known good save, and it is doing the same thing. I feel as though this DLC was not adequately tested. My second issue is that in each of the new biomes, performance takes a hit of up to 20%. Why this is the case, I do not know. Again, was this tested? Finally, my last gripe is the price; had it come with more new mech chassis, not 'melee' mechs made with existing ones, I would have felt it was worth the money. But as it sits, with being unable to get my beloved Hatchetman and kill me some Capellan scum, I cannot help but give this a poor review. Wait for a sale and when patches come out.

Full Review:

I cannot tell you how excited I was to get my beloved Hatchetman. I have many stories and memories of using it as support for my Steiner "scout lance" from the tabletop game. I wanted to buy and play this right away, as you would understand. I am leaving this review so everybody reading can understand my disappointment.

My computer has been fine running this game from day one, yet I cannot even get a stable 60fps on the new biomes. It can be as much as a 20% degradation in performance (Scrapyard is the worst) and means that I often get micro stutters even though I am still above 60fps. Like with my complaints about other DLC and the main game, I question is this DLC was this adequately tested. I do not get the feeling it was.

I am running the game with no mods at all. I played for 5 hours on launch day and I got to the part of the game where I can do the five mission chain and get my Hatchetman. I cannot get past mission 3. Once I drop my mechs, it hangs, then quits the game. I have tried going over/undertonnage, switching mechs, switching paint jobs etc etc, to no avail. I have tried with my original unmodded known good campaign save as well, and it does the same thing even with totally different mechs. I have done the usual steps of checking my games integrity and tried reinstalling the game as of one day after launch with no change either. I do not know if this is an issue with the new 'improved' mechanics regarding tonnage or a problem with the mission itself. Nonetheless, I must ask if this was tested adequately. Again the answer is likely no.

So to break it down, I do not give this a recommendation. Even if your love for the Hatchetman is irrational like mine, I do not think you get enough for the price. You do not have repair bays in each mission, so melee is not only more expensive but significantly riskier. Further, you only get one new mech, and a ton of variants to use the previously mentioned semi-useless mechanic. You get several new biomes, which are nice, but they cause performance degradation and probably were not tested enough. You get a nice new skin, which is nice, but again, not as necessary as more new mechs to add variety to the game. I cannot complete the new mission chain, unmodded on an existing known good save or a new one. I cannot pin it down to the new tonnage 'mechanic' or not, but it is disappointing this was not tested enough like the other DLCs and main game when they came out.

A special mention to the months of radio silence yet again about this game. Why is PGI's marketing team so bad? I guess they do not care overall after selling out to Epic. I hope the Mechwarrior license goes to someone who can truly do justice to this universe in the future.

My recommendation is to wait for a couple of patches and then buy it on sale. Even if everything worked at launch, it does not offer enough value for your money and emphasizes a mechanic that, while it is used on the tabletop, due to game design, does not work well. I give this DLC a 6/10 when bugs are fixed. Do not buy it until then, and buy it on sale.

Worth it just for the DarkStar, I cannot wait to make gun only runs in record time. It is a bit pricey though, so maybe wait for a sale?

TLDR: I think the game still needs some optimization work. The framerate on some levels drops as low as 10 from 60 during the enemy turn in particular. I have a suspicion this is Denuvo related. Further, even for minor wounds, the wound recovery time is way too long and needs to be balanced better. I have had some at 40+ days for minor wounds. This means you cannot use the same character and build them up as per the RPG element of the game. The audio in-game is very good, but not outside of it. The story doesn't make much sense lore-wise either. So while the author is, in my opinion, qualified, I am left wondering if it was double-checked by somebody more familiar with the lore? The interactions between the Imperial factions stand out to me as lore-breaking in particular.

Special mention to the outrageous price for two items, one character and all the twitch loot you can get by watching streamers for hours on end. I think they need a better marketing department, to be honest. Charging people so much for things that should be in the base game is not acceptable.

Full review:

Do you like X-COM? Do you like 40k? On paper, this should be the game for you.

Overall the gameplay is good, though wound recovery time needs balancing. 40+ days for minor wounds isn't acceptable. I mention this as even weapons that lore-wise would damage Aegis Armour rarely do so regularly. This would be forgivable if wound recovery did not take so long. Some of the abilities that show up at random are either useless or absurdly powerful. Due to being randomized, they often affect mission outcomes greatly. Imagine fighting through a mission that was super hard, only to know you likely have to reload and hope that ability does not spawn again. This is incredibly frustrating. Otherwise, I think the game is very good; though I'm not too fond of cover being up to 100%, I think it should be capped at 80-90%.

Sound-wise, the voices and battle sounds are great. Honestly, they are some of the best I have seen from a 40k game. Outside of battles, minus the voice acting, it is subpar. This takes away from the immersiveness of the setting. I had hoped for better.

Story-wise, I think several missions come across as filler and do not contribute meaningfully to the story in any way. When you have the Inquisitor, Astropath and other characters written so well, it sucks having to grind through meaningless missions that do not contribute overall. Dawn of War 2 at least had missions that were grindy, but there was a purpose overall to do them. Here it feels like you get a small reward, but that is all. I would like to see that improved. The interactions between the Imperial factions also needs to be improved as well.

Performance-wise, it can be all over the place. My system is high-end, so getting frame rates as slow as 10 on the enemy's turn is not great and takes away from gameplay. I note this only happens on some maps, whereas others are near perfect 60 across the board. I would hope the developers optimize it some more and hopefully remove Denuvo.

Finally, one cannot neglect to mention the marketing team deciding to make players watch over 10 twitch streams for items. Who thought that was a great idea? Further, the items + characters in the special edition could have easily been included in the base game. Neither adds anything meaningful to the experience, as far as I can tell.

In conclusion, I would give this game a 7 overall, but it is a 6 due to the crappy marketing and value for DLC proposition. I hope the devs know that this would be a solid game with more optimization. Perhaps market it better next time? Buy it on sale.

EDIT: The Devs were kind enough to give the community the twitch items in an upcoming update. I am bumping my overall score to 6.5/10. It is good to see devs listening to the community. Now please remove Denuvo.

TLDR: I pre-ordered three copies of this game for myself and two friends. Both myself and my friend have systems that exceed the recommended requirements. Both of us have had a >50% FPS drop using the same settings in TWW3 vs 2, and it is not apparent why. This is after installing the Nvidia Game-Ready drivers and following forum suggestions.

I question why this game is 79.99 and whether it was adequately optimized/tested. Further, there are many bugs, ranging from hilarious to game mechanic breaking. I cannot, therefore, recommend it in its current state.

CA broke my trust once with abruptly ending Three Kingdoms and leaving it unfinished. Now they have the audacity to charge full price for a half finished game. I am tired of pre-ordering from game companies and getting unfinished product. The Warhammer team is supposed to be better than that, I guess not.

Full Review:

It is finally here after the long wait, the end of a trilogy. Sadly the game runs exceptionally poorly. What were the devs thinking?

I was getting 70+ FPS on Ultra @1080p on TWW2. With TWW3, I get barely above 30 FPS, with frame skipping below that from time to time. This is even with the Game-Ready drivers. Going through forums, even individuals with the latest and greatest hardware also have problems. Based on reviews, I expected a 20% decrease in performance, but instead now have a 50% decrease. This makes the game unplayable. I question how much effort CA put into optimization.

In essence, the devs, in my opinion, need to step up and fix the performance issues. Looking at forums, I am not the only one having issues, and I have no problems with any other Total War or other games.

Bug-wise, the game gave me two achievements when I only watched the intro videos. That was strange. There are issues with pathfinding during city battles where the AI will go in circles during city fights. This is comical in some cases, but it means you have no meaningful opposition. The last bug I picked up is that one of the research items for Slaanesh causes you not to be able to vassalize factions. This breaks an integral mechanic in the game.

If you change any graphics settings, your cursor wont work if you click on the UI, you have to quit the game to do so. The only way to do that is to slightly click outside of the UI button to quit.

In conclusion, even if you are a fan of the Warhammer universe, save some money and buy it later. The game feels half-finished and is significantly overpriced. I am willing to change my review if things get fixed, but currently, I can't play the game I bought, and neither can my friend.

TLDR: The DLC is currently in a buggy state and does not work correctly when importing previous saves. It has issues that cause the game to crash to desktop, as well as other issues with the new components and sound that take away from the game experience. I will detail more below, but as it is at 19.99, it is not worth a buy. I recommend waiting for a sale and a patch (or two). I question whether PGI adequately tested this DLC or not.

Full Review:

There are several issues, big and small, with this game. The first major one is that according to crash logs, if you load a previous save, as the mech save file does not have the new arm components, it causes a fatal scar error. You have to pull your mech out of refit and hope it doesn't crash (It has worked for some people, but not for me). I feel this is entirely unacceptable as it was sold as an addon that would be turn-key from day one, and it is not.

Autocannons currently have no sound as well, which breaks the immersion. I question how this was not caught as well.

You also have to delete an .ini file to get mech switching working. How was that missed?

Starting a new game, you cannot import previous data as the instructions say you can if you pass the specific time in the timeline when the mini-campaign should take place. Again it crashes with a fatal scar error. I am gravely concerned with the quality of the product PGI is putting out.

Please note I do not play with mods and have done the steam check to double-check if there are any file errors. Steam came back saying there was no issue.

In conclusion, I am open to changing my negative review, but as it stands, it is infuriating that such an expensive DLC which adds no new mechs, costs so much and is broken from the outset. If PGI reads this, I know you got your money by selling out to Epic early on; why not direct some of it to developmental testing? Just an idea.

I rate this DLC as do not buy until the issues are fixed.

TLDR: Maneater is one of the most unique games you will likely ever play. Playing as a shark and going on a rampage while levelling up your abilities and finding secrets is tremendous fun. However, it sadly does not last, and there is little replay value aside from starting again on a higher difficulty. I did 100% of the achievements in 9.5 hours in the primary mode and 4.5 hours in the DLC. Based on this I think it is too expensive for what it is. 29.99 for the base game is reasonable, and 9.99 for the DLC is also acceptable. Get it on sale if you want it.

Also the CEO is undeniably based. Garden tools mad because they need to have some personal responsibility for their actions. Shame on Tripwire for caving to the woke mob.

Full Review:

For me, one of the most unexpected parts of the game was the attention to detail the developers paid to getting all the information on the sea life you encounter in the game. When you combine it with the announcer, give you a play-by-play of whatever you are doing, be it eating everything in sight, fighting one of the apex bosses or just swimming along taking in the scenery, it makes quite the combination. Maneater is one of the most unique and enjoyable experiences I have ever had as a gamer.

The visuals are vivid and crisp, and the combat is fluid and well designed. The quests are unique, named in very humorous ways and fun all around. I would recommend allowing players to lock on when tail whipping to destroy the towers in the DLC and putting options so players can adjust the HUD clutter. You can get very cluttered with all the sea life around you in the underwater biosphere, and when you are looking for hidden objectives, it can be hard sometimes.

My main complaint is that Maneater is just too short for the price. I completed 100% of the game in 15 hours, with no new game+ or any incentive to go back and do it again. I hope the developers come out with more DLC as it is a great and enjoyable game, but I can't help but feel that it is a wasted opportunity.

I give this game an 8/10. You may not go through Maneater more than once, but if you get it on sale, you will not feel bitter about it. It is a gratifying, fun and unique game like no other.

TLDR: This game is 'good' for a 40k game but does not hold up; otherwise, it feels half done. Only buy if you are a hardcore 40k fan; otherwise, get it on sale. It has many issues, which I have listed below.

Full Review:

Necromunda: Hired Gun is an FPS game with lots of issues. The stuttering during gameplay has not been fixed with the first patch. No matter which graphics settings or drivers I try, it doesn't work and have smooth gameplay. My system is a 7700hq/1070, so that should not be an issue. I know with Space Hulk Deathwing, it took the developers nearly two years to fix the issues. It isn't very reassuring to see them here as well, especially at the current MSRP.

The gameplay gets the atmosphere of 40k right, but the sounds need a lot of work; I found the bolter sounds to be unsatisfying in particular, and some of the character voices are still quite muffled even after the patch. There are missing sounds when the environment falls around you and could overall have more polish in this area. The Destiny style loot system should not be anywhere near an FPS game, it should be substituted for more RPG elements to upgrade your weapons. I never got my weapons to the highest level, and it seems like a missed opportunity.

The campaign is fun once, but there is little replay value. The side missions are forgettable as well. You only do them to grind and get upgrades, but most take like 10-15 mins to do. Some campaign missions are too short as well and not challenging. I finished this game with 100% achievements in 11 hours.

The elements added outside shooting your way through feel half-baked, and the animations are very clunky at best. This is especially true for the dog, which I am sad to see was not used to its full potential. It gets stuck behind walls or does not show up sometimes. Similarly, several missions call for stealth, but there is no reason or option too. There is no stealth meter, and often you get seen, and enemies attack you, but you have no definitive reason why.

When you try to talk to characters or interact with items, often it will not work, and you have to back up over and over for it to work to move on to the next mission. I did have one crash to desktop due to this as well.

I give this game a 6/10. All in all, I feel unsatisfied with pre-ordering. I am hoping this review can help someone else not make the same mistake. Wait for a sale unless you are ok with a half-finished game.

TLDR: Having clocked close to 100 hours previously in MW5, nothing drastic has changed. PGI sold-out fans to go on another platform to grab their money bag then sell out once they made their profit. Even after nearly two years, the game still has numerous issues with AI, pathfinding, balance and customization, among others. The missions seem to be an endless repeat, just with different characters. As a long-time Mechwarrior and Battletech fan, it is sad to see the lore was not used effectively and instead, MWO was used as a template for simplicity's sake with regards to mech customization.

Many of these problems can be fixed with mods, but ask yourself, before you buy it, is it worth all the headaches that come with mod-related issues? Currently priced too high for what you get, the campaign, even with DLC, will put you about 30-40 hours, but by the last 10 hours, it is very grindy.

This game is not complete without mods; pick it up from a key reseller like Fanatical for a better price or wait for a sale.

Full Review:

So before I say anything, I wanted to thank all the beta testers at Epic for this game. I also wanted to let everyone know that I was an original backer of this game but got a refund due to the unacceptable switch to EGS and the ensuing debacle.

The radio silence surrounding this game was unacceptable, with long periods of no news, then a sudden delay just because another game will supposedly steal MW5's proverbial thunder. The last time I checked, even now, it wasn't on the bestseller list. There are reasons for that, this is the lowest rated Mechwarrior title historically, and it shows.

The AI is slightly better, but without mods to correct the AI pathfinding issues, both friendly and enemy mechs will run in circles around each other until one dies. In addition, pathfinding is still very poor, as friendly mechs still crash into buildings. This makes defence missions very difficult, as the buildings get damaged every time your lance mates run into them.

Until you get a mod to fix the spawning issues, it is more of a horde shooter than a Mechwarrior game. Until you get a mod to fix the customization issues in the mech lab, you have no reason to pick anything but the heaviest mech. All of the mechs per class move at the same speed, with few exceptions. Light mechs are supposed to be used to outmaneuver the enemy, but you have no incentive to do so. Medium mechs are supposed to be well balanced etc. You will need a mod to fix the market limitations as well, as some mechs are super hard to find; I could go on.

It begs the question that if non-professional modders can do these things, why couldn't PGI do them? The catch 22 now is because PGI delayed the game for so long to steam; many of the modders won't update their mods anymore. It is a huge blow to the game.

For the DLC content, the missions you complete to get your mech upgrades are poorly done in some cases. Destroying tracked vehicles was particularly terrible, as only super-heavy tanks count. Some of the missions you need jump jets, but it isn't mentioned in the briefings at all. There are spawning issues as well where only 9/10 enemies show up, and you have to restart your mission as you cant complete it. On launch, even running without mods, this still comes up. Cold storage also didn't work when your saves were transferred at launch, though this was fixed.

After all this time, I wonder how all these bugs still exist. There is very little polish, so where did all the money they made from selling out to EGS go? Thanks, PGI.

The only thing that saves it is that the mech portion of the game is fun, minus how repetitive it is. More mission variety is needed, and more options overall.

I give this game a 6/10. Unfortunately, you likely won't play it after you go through it once; only mods can save you. In the future, I hope another company can do the Mechwarrior franchise right.

TLDR: CA broke the community trust with their announcement about the (non) future of Three Kingdoms. They killed the game without releasing the promised northern expansions DLC with the Xiongnu and won't be patching any more bugs, of which there are many.

Dear CA,

I have always bought multiple games and DLC so my friends and I can play your Total War games together; I was elated when I saw that you were tackling the rich history of the Three Kingdoms period.

This has been one of the more frustrating Total War titles, as the DLC never covered the period intended and was full of bugs on launch. Unfortunately, some of those bugs still exist today, which with you abruptly ending the support for this game has turned my dissatisfaction into intense frustration.

I do not know which executives had the bright idea of going and pushing this marketing ploy talking about the 'future' of a beloved title; when you announce instead, you will cut all support and take away our much looked forward to northern tribes DLC as well. Personally, this has meant an enormous loss of trust. I know many in the community feel the same.

CA, you have lost the proverbial Mandate Of Heaven, and I hope you can turn this around and make things right to your fans. Fix all the bugs and release the promised DLC. With all your profits from Total War Warhammer and others, you can easily do this.

So before I say anything, I wanted to thank all the beta testers at Epic for this game. I also wanted to let everyone know that I was an original backer of this game but got a refund due to the unacceptable switch to EGS and the ensuing debacle.

So for the review, it seems much more polished than some of the earlier builds. However, this is not to the level of XCOM 2, which many reviewers have compared it to. If you have gotten this far into the review and think this game looks fun to play and do not have XCOM 2, do yourself a favor and get that one instead.

I like the free aim mechanic and how overwatch isn't an automatic win anymore. I like the different factions working with or against you and not at the player's whim like in other games. I also like the true to lore cutscenes and story. The research chains and technologies give you the incentive to work hard to be diplomatic with the other factions and balance your late game needs. Having the option to raid for tech or aircraft was a nice touch as well. There are many, many different ways you can play depending on how you balance these mechanics. This ensures no two games are the same.

I think a number of the classes need to be rebalanced as a sniper/heavy or sniper/assault builds are much more useful than any of the other ones. I also think that the havens you need to defend should have buildable point defenses, so you don't have to keep fighting over and over and over. In my first game, I fought almost 70 haven defense battles within a 23-hour game. It felt needlessly tedious. Most of the maps are very similar, even the major story or faction missions. I'd like to see more variety there as well. I never felt compelled to care about any of my soldiers either, like XCOM. More customization features are needed.

Lastly, I think there has been a waste regarding some of the factions there. You fight the Pure and Forsaken, but have very little interaction otherwise. Similarly, the bandit and independent factions have such promise and have not been expanded on very much either. Why can you not choose to work with either? There could be special technologies and other consequences for relations with the main factions. If the developers read the reviews, they should use more of the very rich lore background. I hope the new DLCs fix these things.

I'd give it a lukewarm thumbs-up, a 7/10. There is a lot that needs to be improved, but it is fun if you like XCOM, Xenonauts, or other games that are similar. I hope the developers step up and polish the game a bit more. The 30 dollar price point should be kept as it is until it gets more polished.
