Aliens: Dark Descent is a unique and refreshing game that continues to surprise me. For those who do not wish to read the whole review, it is a stealth-RTS hybrid game that is a very unique experience. The story is written by a team that clearly loves the lore and universe of the Alien series, and the gameplay is solid, with unique mechanics and many different strategies you can try and improve as you level up. The game is, however, still hindered by its many, numerous bugs. I had to redeploy several times through my two runs. I am hoping those bugs get squashed in the future with patches.

First, the good. As a long-time Alien fan who has played many of the previous Alien games on console, I bought this game immediately to support the developers. The RTS portions of the game are very well done, with level design standing out. You can stealth through the missions as much or as little as you want. Doing a more run-and-gun run through a mission is better for levelling up, while a more stealthy run can prevent more wounds and, thus, recovery time for your team. The weapons and equipment are true to lore, as is the overarching story. I truly enjoyed every minute of my two runs. To 100% this game took me two runs at just over 70 hours. This did include several redeploys due to bugs, but more on those later. What Tindalos has here is a very special and unique game, and I hope they continue to develop it. There is enough variety to do several more runs through the game if I want, and I am still discovering new tactics. I am truly impressed by this title.

Tindalos Interactive and I have had a love/hate relationship. I also love Battlefleet Gothic 1/2 from their studio, but like this game, both came out with numerous game-breaking bugs. I am writing this review as of the August 1st patch, so it is much better than before from the streamers I saw playing it, but even so, I have some complaints. I had one crash to desktop throughout all 70 hours of playing; I could not replicate what happened, so I am not docking points for that. However, in the Atmosphere Processing Plant and Pharos Spire mission, there are two datapads I can see but not pick up. I had to redeploy to get them, essentially restarting the mission again. That was very frustrating. In the Tantalus Mission, the elevator would not work the first time I tried it, and again I had to redeploy. During the second run-through, it worked. Again, I lost all my progress and had to restart the mission. Being priced as it is, I expect the game to be more polished, but I must praise Tindalos for being active in forums and working on the Steam patches still. I see the Steam depots changing on work days, so it is good to know the game is being supported.

My biggest wish for this game is for the custodian team of marines to keep squashing bugs and make the game even more polished than it is now. Also, some DLC would be helpful for game longevity. I want a campaign viewing it from the Wei-Yu perspective. That would have missions in the dig under the mine, about the defectors during the desperate fight against the Aliens and other missions that tie into the main game story.

Overall, this game gets a 7, I would rate it at an 8-8.5, but the fact that I had to redeploy several times to get the 100% datapad achievement is unacceptable. I hope this gets fixed in the future. A must-buy for any RTS or Alien fan once bugs get fixed.

So 8 hours in:

This DLC came as a welcome surprise, it is a wonderful addition to the main game. The new assassins change the difficulty curve significantly, helping make up for the spikes introduced with Duty Eternal and the issues that DLC introduced. There are some minor bugs which I will detail later, but as a TLDR, you should buy this DLC without hesitation if you like the base game. It will add significant depth to your experience, and several of the assassins combo with meta builds and open up new ways to combat the Nurglite menace.

Firstly, the new mission types are excellent minus one complaint. The boarding action missions are a welcome change, as you could never have granular control over how much damage your grey knights took when you boarded an enemy vessel. More than once, this caused my A-team of space marines to get injured. Now this does not happen anymore, which removes a liability if you play well.

The second type of mission, the Tentarus hive is a bit more of a handful. It is long and arduous on higher difficulties; I have completed two on ruthless difficulty. I do not take issue with having to destroy the satellite 'germs' before you attack the main hive, but what I do think is overdone is how the primary hive keeps shooting at you, and you can do nothing about it. This happens every turn, so bringing an apothecary is a must. This also means that whomever you bring will be wounded with what that entails. I do not know what the developers fetish is for long, difficult missions (the technophage ones in Duty Eternal also come to mind), but toning it down so it fires every other turn would be preferable. On higher difficulties, you cannot split your forces as the enemy pod sizes are too big, so all of your troops will be damaged more often than not every turn. I would hope the developers can change the main hive to only attack every two turns.

The assassins are a joy to use; you get them near the start of the game before day 60.

The Culexus assassin is the one that I have found most useful. This is because when my grey knights use psychic powers, it adds one damage to their shooting ability, which at the end of a turn means I can often one-shot tough enemies. Further, the passive ability of a 25% chance to take 25% off the warp surge meter with every kill has meant that the warp surge meter fills significantly less. This can be boosted by another 10% with an item. Lastly, shutting down all the enemy psychic abilities, boons and closing warp rifts has been invaluable. The Culexus plays really well with the librarian in particular.

The Eversor assassin is positively insane once you hit level 9. it can take out entire pods by itself if you equip it properly. It is something I tend to bring on lower-level missions as it seems to be geared more towards lower level enemies without high HP pools. However, multiple uses of grenades or other area damage abilities can soften up even the worst of enemies.

The Callidus assassin is great as a scout, I use it to pick up bloomspores and seeds before the battle begins. The armor pierce ability has proven useful, and the distraction ability has saved my bacon more than once when a tough enemy has appeared. Being able to freeze enemies for a turn is very useful. That being said, it seems underpowered compared to the previous two.

The Vindicaire assassin is in lore, my favorite. Love can bloom, after all right? The ability to one-shot any organic enemy is very useful up to the end game, as you can destroy enemies that would take multiple grey knights or multiple turns in one shot. The Exitus pistol eats low-level enemies alive as well, and one level 3 pistol gives you multiple free shots per turn as an auto. Did I mention the pistol has unlimited ammunition? That's how awesome it is.

The new items are appreciated, though truthfully I did not use them for very long. More level two and three items would be appreciated. This way I can use the new items into the late game. The assassin's items are very well designed though, if expensive. I would not mind paying increased requisition to unlock all the other items as well. Maybe the devs can look at that as an option? it seems like a crapshoot with what you get now.

There are two bugs I have noticed. One: on the Tentarus hive mission some enemy pods generate as invisible. Sometimes they become visible later, but I had one instance they do not. Thus far, it has only happened in those missions. Secondly, the Vindicaire assassin has an issue where it says the enemy is targetable, but when it shoots its pistol, it misses. This has happened several times, and it is very frustrating. I hope the developers can fix both soon.

Overall, if you like the original game, then buy this DLC without a second thought. If you were on the fence about Duty Eternal, you don't really need the dreadnought for the technophage missions if you use the assassins to complement other strategies, so the difficulty spike is significantly less. The price is very reasonable as well, and the attention to lore is simply spectacular. You can tell the developers really love the 40k universe and put a ton of effort into it. I rate this DLC as 9/10; very well done. I hope to see more DLC of this quality from the developers in the future.

I have bought a copy for myself and two more for friends; friends don't let friends play Chaos Gate without this DLC.

In my library full of Warhammer games, I have been saddened by the middling nature of many of them. Boltgun was a very nice surprise and is very well worth your purchase. Just the fact that it launched with few significant issues in an era where 70-dollar games launch as bug-riddled messes is worthy of applause. This is particularly true considering the price; imagine a game launching in 2023 at 30 dollars and being playable from day 1. Well done ~

Boltgun has many merits. The gameplay is solid, and while it does get repetitive, I did like how the weapons are represented and how true to the lore the enemies and other elements were represented. Finding all the secrets was enjoyable as well, and it can add replayability if you want to 100% the game. I like the taunts and how Boltgun ties into the original Space Marine game as well. Overall, an excellent experience for its price point.

All the praise aside, I would have liked to see more boss and enemy types. Killing a Great Unclean One or Lord of Change for the 20th time represents a missed opportunity. I do hope we can get some DLC to add more campaigns. A couple of the levels seemed very poorly designed. I was not too fond of mission one in chapter two, for instance, as it was very confusing to get my bearings. I also try to get one dollar for every hour of play in games I buy. 100%ing this game took me a little over 7 hours; I would recommend Boltgun to anybody but know you are in for a fun but short time if you play on the hardest difficulty at the start like I did.

In conclusion, this game is excellent for 40k fans, FPS fans or casual gamers. I truly appreciate how much the developers clearly love the 40 universe, and it shows through the attention to detail in the setting. I think more DLCs would help, and I would buy them immediately. Some campaigns fighting against the other Chaos gods would be welcome in particular. Boltgun is a solid 8/10 for anybody who enjoys games of its genre.

Censorship of a ten year old game is a new low in the gaming industry. I guess somebody needed to get their ESG score higher. This is on top of replacing a very loved NPC character with a gay furry previously.

Nobody should buy this game until the changes are reversed. Shame on the developers for pushing censorship and needless, woke changes onto their paying customers.

EDIT:

One of the animators pushes degenerate furry and other art, yet endorses censorship and removal of in game content people paid for.

Further:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_sCOe6EdPw

The developers are literally buying copies to try and get good reviews. They also criticize others for not liking removal of paid content. Where is the Soviet announcer for instance?

Overall do not support this developer, they openly mock and criticize while being hypocrites themselves.

Be sure to change your review options to see all the reviews, so they do not censor those who are against the changes to the product they paid for.

Lastly, follow this guide to 'downgrade' your copy, to get what you paid for.

Dead Space is a game series I have many fond memories of growing up. I 100%ed the previous games on my Xbox 360 and was pleased to hear of a remake that was faithful to the original. The remake of Dead Space is imperfect, and I have serious underlying concerns about optimization. However, they did a relatively good job recreating what made this game great overall. It took me 49 hours to 100% this rendition of Dead Space through three runs.

First, the good. The game is recreated faithfully for the most part. The weapons and upgrades are, as you remember, with a much-improved upgrade system so you do not waste power nodes. I appreciated that. The puzzles and changes to the game are familiar enough to veterans while changed up enough to still provide a challenge on higher difficulties. The marker pieces and alternate ending were a nice touch and added more depth to the story. The side quests also stand out to me as well done. Sometimes, backtracking in games can seem monotonous, but getting the master override, finding all the recordings, tracking down all the upgrades and unlocking new details about a familiar story were some of the highlights of my first run. If you do everything as I did, one run should take you 12-16 hours if you are getting everything.

Now the not-so-good. My PC can run Resident Evil 4 Remake fine at 60fps. I can run any of my other 4000+ games smoothly as well. Dead Space Remake is the first game in recent memory that I own that has massive stuttering issues, whether on my desktop or laptop computer. Keeping a consistent frame rate is a challenge. I bought this game for some other friends as well, and they have the same problem. Even sticking this game on an NVME SSD does not eliminate the stutters when going from area to area. The additional traversal stuttering seems to happen at random, though I have found deleting and recompiling the shaders does help, at least for a while. Both of my PCs are well above recommended specs, and my friends have even better PCs than I do, yet they still have the same issue.

I bought this game after a few patches and thought it might have been fixed, but it has not. More worrying is how there has not been a patch for a long time. Why is this game so poorly optimized? Has development stopped, as rumours say? These are some concerns I have. I hope it gets fixed.

Also, I don't particularly appreciate how this game has become another front in the culture wars. Were the changes to the female characters necessary? Did we have to have characters expressing their sexuality multiple times during the story as well? The answer is a resounding no. Neither were necessary additions and take away from the immersion and overall experience. I game to escape from all the politics in real life; please keep classic, loved franchises like Dead Space politics-free.

Shame on EA for what they did to Visceral. Shame on Motive for delivering a product like this.

Overall I give this game a 7/10. It would be an 8.5 if needless politics were not injected into it, and it was better optimized. I hope the devs fix the issues so that this game can truly give players the experience they deserve. At the current price point, with the issues I have mentioned, I would only recommend die-hard fans buy the game. Wait for a sale.

Phantom Brigade is a game with great mechanics in combat but needs more detail, depth and world building where it matters to give context. I have many praises to provide the game in some areas, but I also have many complaints. It is one of the few games that does so well in one area that it mostly makes up for its issues in the others, but with some work, it could be so much better.

Firstly, the formula will be somewhat familiar if you have played Battletech. Build your mechs, fight in a turn-based format, manage your heat and win through tactics and guile. Where Phantom Brigade shines is its unique prediction mechanic that is unique enough to make combat vibrant and exciting without sacrificing the challenge. Liberating every province took me 50+ hours, so you get your money's worth. I must also praise the animation quality of the mechs, which are truly impressive.

I lament the lack of a proper tutorial; I did not fully understand the ins and outs until about 10 hours in. There is no explanation for why my melee attacks were not hitting, how to manufacture items, or the levelling mechanic, for example. The tutorial was just a couple of combat missions. A proper tutorial would significantly improve the game, so you could start using everything at your disposal right away.

Your pilots are forgettable and have no personality. A necessary addition would be something to make you care about them. What are their backstories? How does their backstory tie into the game? What are their perks when piloting a mech etc? As for the story, there is no story other than another country has invaded yours, and you have to fight back. A more thorough explanation would be appreciated. The enemies are equally generic as well. This lack of context, which I previously mentioned, takes away from the whole package. More world crafting needs to be done to truly make this game stand out. Unique enemies when you get to higher levels would also be welcome, as the game gets monotonous. Facing local commanders of notoriety is one idea I have. You could tie the elimination of them to Home Guard support and the hope mechanic.

The levelling system leaves much to be desired. There is no research or special weapons you can get as you level up. Your level just goes up for the sake of levelling up with no cap, as far as I can tell. There needs to be meaning to levelling up, with new access to weapons, tech and research as you salvage items. That would add more depth to the game, rather than just farming rare parts as it is.

My last gripe is that there is no way to use heavy mechs effectively, except on defence. Since you are always attacking, that is very rare, if ever. The mech reactors only give so much power so your heavy will always be pitifully slow. The items are not balanced either, so you will always be min-maxing using the items with the most modifications, rather than variety. Some perks like pilots being better with some mechs/parts or major bonuses for completing a set of mech parts would be nice to incentivize you to use a variety of parts. A way to see parts values without having to take off mods in the mech lab would be nice too. Having to remove mods over and over just to find that a higher level part weighs slightly too much is not fun. I suggest a toggle button. Lastly, some of the mods, like the hybrid/range sensor do not seem to affect the weapons stats at all. This is either an error with it not showing on the UI or those mods are not working at all.

Bug-wise, there are still several. You cannot manufacture boosters or the DC1 Cannon. I do not know if that is intentional. The PLS Curve projectiles do not hit often, especially on vehicle targets, rendering that weapon unusable. The defector event never goes away, and you cannot complete it. This bug happened in both of my games. I also had an issue with attacking a mine cache that never went away, and I could not complete it. No crashes in my 50 hours, and the game ran very well otherwise. There may be an issue with how melee weapons hit targets, particularly non-mech vehicles.

Overall, I would give this game a lukewarm 7/10. With some added depth in the areas mentioned, it would help the game be much better than it is currently, where monotony sets in eventually. I would be willing to pay for DLC if the developer offers it. The combat is excellent and redeems the deficiencies in other areas. A good buy for the price, if you do not mind that it gets a bit boring as you play.

This DLC is on par with Heroes of the Inner Sphere in terms of what it adds in my opinion. The devs have obviously listened to what the fans and players of Mechwarrior wanted.

In the four hours I have played, I have encountered one mercenary group already. The map feels much more dynamic and is full of pleasant surprises.

The AI no longer runs into buildings and runs in circles. Further, it is much more responsive to orders. Pathfinding, especially around chokepoints still needs work though.

Yes, you only get one new mech, but with the other QOL changes and the new 12-mission campaign (I have completed two missions so far), it is worth the price of entry.

Special shout out to the changes to mech storage; the changes have made the game much more enjoyable. Gone are the days of reconfiguring mechs repeatedly when you move them in and out of storage.

I had one error the first time I transferred my campaign to the start date of the new campaign. However, on a second try, it worked.

This DLC is worth a buy. 7.5/10 overall.

This game is very short for its price, and while it can be described as a 'good' time rather than a long time, it is still very overpriced. Even farming kills in multiplayer for the last achievement only took me about five hours; the campaign was 2.5 hours on the hardest mode. I think for the price, it should have more content.

That being said, it is very true to the lore in the 40k universe and one of the few games that accurately portrays 'Orkiness'. The soundtrack is one of the best I have ever heard in a 40k game, so that is well done too.

There are still crashes; in my five hours, the game got locked twice, and it quit with an error in multiplayer once. This game still needs more patches. I hope the devs fix it soon.

Overall, good to pick up to kill a few hours minus the bugs for a rip-roaring good time. But it ends too quickly. Pick it up on sale if you want it, not for full price. I give it a 7 out of 10 until the bugs are fixed.

TLDR: This is a solid, relatively bug-free DLC for one of the best 40k games in my opinion. The addition of the dreadnought and techmarine adds much-appreciated depth to the experience. The new enemy types also add more diversity in terms of challenge as well.

The new mechanics surrounding the collection of archaeotech and the Gladius frigate are also welcome. I played for 4 hours on launch day with no crashes, only minor slowdowns I will detail below.

If you love Chaos Gate or 40k, buy it without hesitation, it is reasonably priced and has content to match.

Full Review:

The dreadnought is truly OP. It is a shame you cannot bring it on every mission, though I understand why. The techmarine is also very useful, though I do not find myself taking him into every battle. The Servitors fill a variety of uses, and the latter ones you unlock are especially useful.

The Gladius Frigate allows you to divide and conquer, which is a totally different way of playing the game. Kudos to the developers for integrating the DLC within an existing campaign so well; I will do another run after my campaign is finished.

The technophage and archaeotech add much-needed variety, though I wish there was a campaign mode where you could defeat all the bosses before progressing. I hope that is added in the future.

The game runs much smoother now as well, though I think that has more to do with the updates than the DLC. One minor bug is that the frame rate suffers when using the heavy flamer on the dreadnought, but other kinds of fire graphics do not cause this. It is a minor nitpick, but perhaps the developers could look at it? I tried turning the graphics down to no avail.

The only other bug I have seen is when a 'fleshmower' enemy got stuck on terrain, and I could not kill it. A mission restart fixed that.

Overall this adds more replayability to the game and is well worth the price in my opinion. When the bugs are fixed, I would give this DLC an 8.5/10. Go pick it up if you like the game and/or are a 40k fan. This is one of the sadly rare 'good' 40k games.

TLDR: I think the game has decent mechanics, if simplistic. I believe the mobile suit collection could also be better, though I am guessing that is what the DLCs are for later. My two major issues are that the third-person camera has serious jank and often has the wrong angles at the worst possible times. This causes problems when trying to complete boss battles in particular. The final issue is that despite verifying my steam install, updating my graphics drivers and opening up a ticket with support, I cannot fix why the FPS keeps going as low as 10 from highs of up to 100. It leads to an abysmal experience. I can only conclude that perhaps this has not been optimized as much as it should have been, which is disappointing considering its price point.

If you are on the fence, buy it after a patch or two, and buy it on sale.

Full Review:

As a lifelong Gundam fan, I was very excited when this was announced. Overall, it turned out to be an okay game, minus the glitches above. But I think there could be some improvements.

Firstly, for new players, the tutorial is not detailed enough. I think it should be longer and go into detail about what to do, especially regarding the types of attacks and the strengths/weaknesses of the mobile suits. It only went over this in short detail, so some more detail would help.

I noticed a ton of mobile suits missing, many from SEED in particular. It would be nice if they were included as this game is expensive. I am sure the player base will get squeezed through DLC, though.

The graphics look stellar; in my opinion, this is much better than Cross Rays, or SRW, that recently came out. The voice work is also excellent and faithful to the lore. I have no complaints overall in this area.

My main issue is with what I can assume to be some sort of porting issue. Even with my 3070, I can't hold a steady 60 fps+, and the framerate goes up and down between 10-100FPS. I have tried multiple settings, updating my GPU drivers and verifying the game via steam. None of this has worked.

The other issue is how terrible the camera can be. It goes into the worst possible angles, and you have to re-lock on to targets, which puts you at a disadvantage during boss battles. It can range from annoyance to infuriating. I hope this gets fixed.

Overall I give this game a 6.5/10; it would be higher, but the technical issues destroy the experience, and the camera issues are unacceptable. For the price point, I expect better. Do not buy unless on sale and after a couple of patches.
