Dark souls: prepare to die edition

Port!
- Needs a controller. Don't even bother if you don't have one.
- Resolution is locked at 720p get a mod to break this.

Your recommendation is 2000 characters too long. Please shorten it and try again.

The game:
Dark souls is a open world game this is most noticeable when you arrive at the start of the main land after you completed the northern undead asylum, which serves as a introduction/tutorial area. The game gives you three different paths to go through. However only one is best advised for starting players as the two different path leads to area´s which are meant to be accessed later into the game. However if the player enters one of the two harder areas and actually manage to proceed in it he can find some good loot that might help him in the early game. Ones you start progressing through the game you will start opening shortcuts that allow you to cut threw different sections of the area´s.
Dark souls tries to sell itself as a hard game, heck the subtitle “prepare to die” is a direct indication too it. The main danger comes from the different types of enemy´s. Secondary is the environment that tries to kill you. Each different enemy has a different attack pattern/behavior and can give you a pretty good punch, if you leave your defense wide open. The game uses the environment mainly to give an extra challenge to the area, cliffs/pits being one of the developers favorite.
The third difficulty comes from the respawn system. For this the game uses bonefires. Bonefires are the places where you respawn when you die, there are no other save points in the game. You find these bonefires usually at the start, middle & end of the different areas, some are hidden & other only appear when you defeated the area´s final boss. Add in the fact that when you use a bonefire all enemy´s respawn, except for bosses & mini bosses, just getting to the boss can be a hard challenge. Another penalty for dying is that you will lose all the souls you could gather op to that point. Souls are received by killing enemy´s and used to level up your character and buy items from npc´s. You have only one chance to get those souls back which is getting back to the point where you died. If you die a second time those souls will be gone forever. The souls gathered during your last run will be on the ground where you died. However items you buy always stay with you even when you die.
The game is overall well balanced there is only 1 maybe 2 spots were the game leaves such a small margin for error that you can question if the part should be in the game.
Story & Lore:
The story of dark souls feels at the start very lacking. The only real thing you know is that you are a chosen undead. What you need to do and what for is not made clear unless you talk to a npc. As you proceed through the game you will get some extra plot and an end goal but it still stays very slim. You can finish the entire story and still question what you actually have achieved.
Were dark souls shines is it´s lore. Every item in the game has it`s very own description which tells extra information about the world or the character of which it belonged too. If the player wants to deepen himself into the lore, he will find himself in a world filled with story while still maintaining a certain mystery to it. At the same time it deepens the little amount of story that you are told and raises an even bigger question about the end of the game and some npc´s motives.

Conclusion:
Dark souls: PTDE is a semi- hard game. It depends on the player if he is willing to learn the combat system.
Bottemline: If you´re willing to put some time into it and have a bit of an open mind then you should be in for some interesting gameplay. If you like having everything spelled out for you, then this game is probably not for you.
