The foundation is here for a really excellent follow-up to KSP which ought to clean up basically all the cruft around the original. As of February 2023, though, I can't recommend jumping in unless you're a vet who's interested in following development.

It looks and sounds fantastic. The physics are much improved, encouraging careful design and rewarding back-and-forth experimentation. The UI is snappy, modular, and clearly expansible, even featuring a built-in mod toolbar. Procedural parts abound. You can even recolor them as you go, which is a lot more fun than it probably sounds.

Aside from the bare-bones gameplay options, though--sandbox mode and a handful of tutorials--and aside from some truly remarkable jank, there just aren't enough tools yet to do anything beyond a seat-of-the-pants jaunt into orbit or to the Mun and back. The engineer report and trip planner, for example, are fantastic additions, but as far as I can tell there's no way yet to adjust ∆v calculations for different gravity or atmosphere regimes, no way to isolate TWR for individual stages, etc.

I'm glad I bought it and I'm looking forward to seeing the game grow. But for now: that's a "ehhh" from me, folks.

It's a very good open-world action RPG. If you like that kind of thing you'll probably like this too!

Recalls everything you loved and hated and loved to hate about FMV games. Also, when played on a TV, one of the best party games around. A good dose of Thompson's Tar is recommended for maximum enjoyment.
