EDIT * After servers were up and I was able to play longer than half an hour before getting "miked", I had a more indepth play experience and I will be changing my recommendation to be "Yes"

Servers seem to be working better now, although there is sometimes a queue.

In regards to actual gameplay, I really enjoy the shooting and cover system. The move between cover has been well designed, smooth, and simple. All of the talents, skills, and perks that weren't available in beta make the game a lot more enjoyable. There seems to be many ways to custom tailor your agent to your playstyle.

Graphically the game is really beautiful. Character animations look pretty good. The world is very immersive.

Sound design isnt anything amazing, but it still does a good job in some areas. While the guns aren't as impactful as I would like, The ambient sounds really bring the world to life.

I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys cover based shooters, open world , online multiplayer, and loot collection.

Now, Ubisoft contacted me to see if I had resolved the issues. I appreciate the support.

Now, to the "very helpful" comments on this review, good for you, you could play after half an hour. please realize that not everyone had the same experience. I had to wait until evening before I could even log in. I understand how things can go wrong during launch events, but my point was directed not so specifically at Ubisoft, but at game develops and producers througout the industry. I still am of the opinion that there is no excuse for these launch day problems, especially when the same thing has happened to numorous titles within the same company. The industry should know better and should be able to take steps to minimize the problems, or eleminate them entirely. I can't speak for what decisions were actually made at the meetings during development and launch events, but I would hope they are actively trying to prevent these issues.

Such severe server issues should not exist anymore, nor should they be excused by the gaming public. "What did you expect lol" doesn't help anyone or help to challenge developers and publishers to improve. Gamers have every right to be frustrated when the game is not playable on the indicated release date.

These publishers have the money, they should be the ones to expect server issues and take steps accordingly. There needs to be significant public backlash if this practice of releasing games unfinished or launching unprepared is ever going to be fixed.

Step up your game Ubisoft, stop taking gamers for granted or it will eventually bite you in the ass.

Possibly one of the best rally racing sims of all time.

Codemasters has succesfully brought the Dirt franchise back to the roots that many rally fans want. This game is pure rally, raw and unforgiving.

Graphically the game is very nice and mostly optimized well. I am running an i54460 with a GTX 960. This is a modest PC but I can get 50-60 fps with most graphical options set at ultra. However, Advanced Blending should only be turned on if you have a beast of a pc. I see a significant drop in frame rate when Advanced Blending is enabled.

The Physics and controls are very tight and realistic and as you drive the cars you unlock new modifications, from advanced tuning setup to engine upgrades.

This game is of course best played with a driving wheel controller, I have a logitech driving force GT that works well with Dirt Rally. Force Feedback needed a few tweaks but I am happy with the end result. I also play with an xbox1 controller because I live in a small space with a baby and the wheel makes way too much noise. This game is still playable and enjoyable with a controller, with many adjustments available for saturation, linearity, and deadzone for steering, throttle, and brakes.

The difficulty levels and learning curve are steep compared to previous games in the Dirt series, but with practice you will learn to love the challenge.

Part of the difficulty comes from one of my complains about the game. The pace notes from your co-driver are often too late, sometimes corners are called almost as you are inside the corner. Other corners are called completely wrong. I trust Codemaster to fix this issue in the future, but for now it can be very frustrating to wreck because your co-driver called a hairpin right as you are entering the corner.

I would also like to see more stages, although the variety within the currently available stages is great enough to keep races from becoming repetative and easily memorized. Although you will remember a few of the infamous corners and sections in each of the stages. Beware The Rock Of Greece, perhaps placed there by Atë herself.

Overall, I would recommend this game to anyone who appreciates a serious and challenging driving sim. If you have been unsatisfied with the past Dirt games, you might be pleasently surprised by Dirt Rally. Howeverm if you are looking for arcade action, I would not recommend it to you. But, if you still want to have a go, don't be discouraged by the initial difficulty. You will crash, and you will crash often, but it is part of the learning process that leads to a great feeling when you finally record a clean stage.

    Recommened to :
  • Hardcore driving sim fans,
  • WRC fans,
  • Masochists.

    Not recommended to :
  • Casual racing game fans,
  • Impatient people with short tempers.

With a solid player base and a free to play model supported by cosmetic items, this could rise from the dead. The core gameplay is engaging and atmospheric. Ran very well on my mid range system.

Early Access Review
This game is so great I am holding back from playing Early Access so I can fully enjoy it on launch. Grab it on sale, but it is really worth the full price.

Currently this game is peer to peer multiplayer. There are no world servers and no explanation as to why, or any plans to add world server support.
