Despite what players that prefer original Insurgency say, this game is a big step-up and if you're a fan of gunplay, ballistics and somewhat more realistic approach to the Insurgency format, you must try this game out.

Might also add that I do not agree with people saying that this game ain't no fun. To my mind it is as good if not better as the original Insurgency game. It just could be that Insurgency: 2014 felt different, because it was their first game of that sort and of course it took a special spot in everyone's hearts. As well as in mine.

But still, Insurgency: Sandstorm deserves your attention and a few spent bucks.

To cut a long review short — the game is a masterpiece, and you should try it if you are a fan of a realistic (from a historical point of view) approach to game design.

What stands out right away is how complicated everything seems in the beginning and that the story doesn't revolve around you, but rather you are in the story as someone who doesn't matter in the beginning, and in the end when you do, the game suddenly ends.

It has to be said that there are some game mechanics that are not implemented in a well thought out way, which can be explained by the lack of budget, time, and experience of Warhorse as a game studio. You can notice some clunky animations, facial expressions, certain bugs, and framerate drops in big cities with castles even if you have a decent enough PC config.

Some game mechanics are there to specifically make you feel like you are not an almighty hero, and you shouldn't be one. You are an ordinary boy who lost his parents and doesn't know anything about life, so you shouldn't save scam whenever you see fit, and Savior Schnapps is there for that specific reason. You MUST think twice before doing something, and if you fail, you must bear the consequences.

The music is outstanding. Adam Sporka and Jan Valta are gоddamn genuises, and I am very glad they were involved in composing in the second game as well.

Huge props to the team who dealt with forests, because they are beautiful and feel natural.

Monastery? Churches? Castles? They're just incredible. You must see the tapestries, because not only do they look accurate to that time period and tell some kind of story, but they also just look awesome.

Alas, there are a few things that do bother me. First, it's how easy it is to make money there, which is essentially useless after a certain amount. And I am afraid that the DLC where you restore Pribyslavitz is just there to help you spend that money somewhere. Because you will spend more than 70K on that restoration. And without that, you just end up carrying hundreds of thousands of Groshen.

Combat mechanics work nice when fighting one enemy, but it starts to look clunky if you are fighting 2-3 or even more enemies at the same time. Which I hope is going to be changed in the second game.

You can also tell that they didn't have enough time to implement the crime system in full glory, and they probably decided not to do it later in the patches because they were already working on it in the second game.

Overall, I would give this game a strong 9/10 still because I have a very strong connection with how it feels to roam the cities and complete those intertwining quests. And that you can actually roleplay there, even though sometimes choices may seem too "on the surface".

Give this game a go and have patience, because it only gets better the more you play it.

I haven't seen even half of the content that this game can provide me with, but anyway i am going to give you my honest and useless opinion. Having played 300+(?) hrs in Chivalry i decided to buy this beauty. I was hoping, that the skill i grew in years in that game, could come in handy, and it did. But so it did for the most of the others amongst newcomers. So i was sucking hard. Especially in duels. Now (27 hours into the game) i flinch less from feints, but still am getting destroyed by individuals with mauls, because yeah - it's overpowered. Russian servers are mostly boring in a way that they are literally there to fuсk you up. I had a chance to play at a European server and i had laughet so much, that my cheeks were actually hurt.

Public servers are easy. Without even an inkling of effort i managed to get top 1 in my second game and mostly stay top 5 after (there are some exceptions, no doubt). But, as i said before, rank duels are a nightmare for newcomers. I sucked every second time, or even more so, first 10-15 hours. It was hella frustrating. Every guy feinted and i hated it, but then i fuсking realised, that every time, when a charecter actually makes a hit he grunts (technically you can block with your eyes closed, but if your opponent accels the attack that won't help you). So basically you gonna have to take your time to study and learn the animations to understand when a guy feints or not. (This bit is edited when i have 50+ hours at the game, i still can't learn the animations but i found some other solutions, like chambering attacks or kicking the enemy, or use my footwork to stay out of the line).

This game provides you with a number of opporunities to kick аss, but to master it (or hell, even be able to calmly slay 5 enemies out of 10) you gonna have to put some effort. If you want to be good, go to any duel server and train, train and train.

If you do not wish to be the man, who kicks аsses and cracks skulls, then you can just have fun yourself by making overstupidly looking charecters, running around and screaming. Whatever floats your boat, really.

Character creation is great, though the gold is farmed rather slowly, but you can create as many (as far as i'm concerned) charecters with different perks and equipment. AND THAT IS AWESOME.

Overall this game is awesome, fantastic even. If you are a fan of medieval setting (especially if you liked chivalry), this game is for you.

With that being said, stay safe, fuск archers and feinters (i know that's part of the game mechanics, but i deeply hate it. Rather use morph attacks). Have a good one.

Gets frustrating in the first 20 hours or so, but if you get a hang of it, you could actually realise how good the game is. But get ready to die at spawn from C4 and whatnot, get constantly bombed and naded from any corner of the map. AND PLEASE, FOR GOD's SAKE, REMEMBER THAT THIS IS A TEAMPLAY GAME.
And of course remember about social distancing...

I've been playing this game for god knows how many years, then i dropped it for a year, because i could see, that this game was dying. But today is the day, i have desided to install it back and have a nice little round of duels. How shocked i am that in a year of my absence the community turned into some crying puppies, and i don't mean that they play bad, or they noobs (because as a matter of fact they are superior to me in skill and playstyle), but they constantly whine about how this game works, they don't like vanilla, why their opponents trade attacks etc. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GOOD OLD CHIVALRY?

(Anyway i still love the game and it's buggy unrealistic features, but russian community is just a bunch of crybabies. And of course i don't mean all of them, just the majority that spams in chat after every move)
