Portal was the first game I ever got on steam, back when valve was giving it away for free in 2010.

Portal is a first-person puzzler where you use a portal gun to solve various puzzles involving cubes, buttons, turrets, and momentum. There is a small amount of story line, mainly just focusing on solving puzzles until you get to the end of the game, where it focuses a bit more on plot and moving around the facility this all takes place in. The game is not that long, taking a few hours depending on how well your puzzle-solving skills mesh with this game.

Personally, this game has a fantastic atmosphere, unique puzzles, and a memorable character. It also has a sequel (which is also fantastic), if you decide you want to see more puzzles and expand on the plot given here.

But why, if this is a short game beatable in a few hours, do I have 130 hours of playtime in it? This is also a good game to casually speed run. You can get started with basic inbounds strategies, which will fairly easily give you a time of under 30 minutes, which is nice if you only have an hour or two at a time and want to get into speedrunning.

Terraria is an excelent game that is ultimately addictive, but way more so with friends. Friends are why the game is so fun, not because playing singleplayer is excelent. Personally, if you have no one to play Terraria with, don't buy it. If you do, then have fun!
