In Intravenous, players step into the role of Steve Robbins, a man out for revenge against the criminals who killed his brother. Though inspired by 3D tactical stealth titles, Intravenous' gameplay takes place from a top-down 2D perspective, with themes and settings drawn from a crime thriller aesthetic not unlike that of action titles like Hotline Miami. Intravenous also features qualities similar to immersive sims, in promoting a multifaceted approach to every situation. While it is primarily a stealth title that relies on using factors like visibility and taking advantage of distractions to get past threats, its weapon selection allows for guns-blazing approaches using a variety of firearms. Similarly, reactive enemy behavior like using cover in firefights, employing tools like flashlights in darkness, and coordinating moves via radio, allows for a deeper, more tactical experience in both stealth and open combat.
