This game lets you drive trains and manage traffic as a dispatcher on multiplayer servers. You establish paths for the trains going through or stopping at your station, communicate with neighbouring posts and talk to player drivers as they drive their trains through. I find the multiplayer aspect very unique, fun and entertaining. Chances are, your country's local community will even organize events and be generally nice to play with and talk to.

Singleplayer mode is limited to scenarios by the game developer or by the community and there is no game saving/loading option available, which sucks, given that the scenarios often take hours to complete.

While the multiplayer is fun, some of the stations see very little traffic and there is not much to do in them. These small stations are simulated too realistically for my tastes: you let trains pass from the left to the right on a single track, or in the opposite direction, then wait and sit idle for 20 minutes until another set of trains arrives. Nothing else happens.
There of course are busier stations where trains cross more often, but these places are also more popular and harder to get to as they're often occupied by other players. The game's EULA practically prohibits you from making/organizing any significant events yourself or with other players. There appears to be some discretion/leniency as chosen by your server's moderators, but anything that causes an interruption in traffic flow is technically in breach.

Even if the game is not meant to provide deep immersion and stunning graphics, I still find the visuals fairly lacking – they're OK but definitely not particularly nice or beautiful. The game's UI feels clunky and is often counter-intuitive and unfriendly. The game developer gives off a very chaotic vibe, deadlines are regularly missed and features get postponed / cancelled / delivered half-baked. And then you wait another few months for an update that is late and lacking. All the while, there is either no communication at all, or just a very generic changelog that does not actually provide much detail. Performance is not great either and multiplayer servers often experience lag.

I spent some solid hours playing this game and truly enjoyed most of this experience, but find myself disappointed in regards to my expectations and to the game's recent updates, whose frequency and content is far from ideal. There is a lot of potential though, and I hope that one day, I'll get to turn this review around.

It might be a good-enough game but you only get like 6 hours of entertainment for all the 40€ and have to purchase one of the million overpriced DLCs to get more. There's probably other stuff on Steam that's worth your money better than this.

I bought the game during this year's Christmas Sales primarily out of boredom. The game has quite surprised me - in a positive way. Countless things have changed since the free, public alpha version and many were added as well. I just finished the story campaign and I must say the ending is quite original. I can't wait for tomorrow to play it once again. Papers, Please! is definitely worth the money.

This game will definitely suit your needs. Garry's mod is the game for you, regardless if you want to have fun with or without using your brain. It's a Half-Life 2 mod with Lua scripting - and tons of gamemodes, weapons and maps made by the community.
