The first 500 hours of this game will be dog, but if you have 1000+ hours and play Competitive MP with others, it's tons of fun!

Would definitely recommend mods, Paradox Focus Trees are dogwater and way too complex for what they actually do. RT56 and Kaiserreich are better for Single Player than vanilla, Horstorical and any other multiplayer-oriented mod like Their Finest Bruh is better for that than vanilla as well. Hopefully Paradox adds some life into the game, UI & that sort of thing looks lifeless, the focus on Alternative History also ruins the experience for anyone that plays historical SP on vanilla, as things like D-day and Barbarossa are critically underdeveloped, despite the NSB DLC. Honestly, Germany and Japan need reworks.

But, despite all of that, this game is really fun! I would recommend it if you're in need of a hobby and you have the time to sink into this game. If not? Pick up an FPS Shooter like CS:GO or OW2. It's also a hobby, but doesn't take as much time as HOI4 to actually get good at.
