Came for the roguelike recommendation, grew on the procedurally generated world and history that reminded me of dwarf fortress and stayed awake for two days getting more and more into it, it's a really good and diverse game.
However, controls need some getting used to.

So far I've only scratched the surface of my first, "Roleplaying" save game (I've ran off and started exploring with little regard to quests) and have a ton of fun finding out about all the different mechanics and making some questionable choices.

You are the law! In most cases, great choices for good, lawful and evil. You get to play adjudicator every once in a while, even abusing technicalities in law.

Every once in a while, I found that available options are lacking in nuance but it rarely happens.

The spell system allows building variations of different spells that follow a scheme of different types of effects, targets/target areas and modifications through sigils which is really nice.

The first act at least allows following 3 to 4 major paths (first the two armies and some neutral/independent choices and later going independent/rogue and betrayal at multiple points).

The only real gripes I have are with the interface. Scaling support isn't in the UI (playing 4k+) but it's possible to do so by modifying a game file (DLL). There are also not that many options regarding hotkeys and while inventory management at large is great due to categories, equipping items (equipment) and separating items (for quick item slots) is annoying due to lacking hotkey explanation or (as far as I am aware) lacking hotkeys for equipping items and unintuitive stack splitting.

Overall, it's a really nice game and from a game/story (not interface) design perspective often better than many 'modern' CRPGs. It does not use a TTRPG ruleset and specifically doesn't seem to use dice rolls at all. Skill thresholds are absolute with no randomness and you just can't attempt things that you don't have the skill for. The system as-is seems to make it easy to succeed all skill checks. Emphasis of the game seems to be on rich storytelling and design outside of skill checks specifically.

Combat requires some preparation on default difficulty but is fairly easy with a good variation of party members and thanks to sigils has quite a lot of possibilities.

A "Must Play" for everyone who loves nuanced characters, storytelling or RPGs in general. One of the most fascinating and captivating games to date.

Great game for short breaks. Difficulty can be both casual and challenging and there's a great variety of playstyles possible already.

Outstanding CRPG, although it has some bugs and issues, mainly random crashes and monstrous savegame file sizes; poor optimization.
