If you like bad hit-reg, and shooting people in the head, get this game. This game raped my sister, killed my father, and pillaged my town. 5/5, would play again.

This game is weird. Don't bother playing without friends, otherwise you'll get bored hella quickly.

The game has an incredibly-awkward control system, but once you get used to it, you'll be having fun. And by having fun, I actually mean you and your friend(s) will be team-killing the ♥♥♥♥ out of each other, whether you mean to or not. And you'll inevitably learn new spells on accident, which will probably end up getting you pwned anyway.

The game is fun, mainly because of how wacky it is. The characters all speak in some absurd mock-language, like in 'The Sims'. There are countless references to pop culture and random terrible internet memes, so people into that sort of thing will find themselves laughing their asses off. The game doesn't take itself seriously at all. I remember one of the objectices was literally something like "TALK TO THIS RANDOM UNIMPORTANT NPC" and I did so, and bam -- "quest" completed.

It's a cheap game, and can be pretty difficult at times (i.e. all the time) due to relentless enemies, you constantly fumbling over the controls, rampant teamkilling, and all-around batshittery.

FUN GAME BAI NAO

Awesome music-based game. Can 'surf' any music track you have on any of your data drives so long as it's a supported file type (mp3, m4a, ogg, flac, etc.). Has various 'characters' to choose from, offering different types of gameplay.

It's cheap, it's awesome, buy it.

This game has had a pretty notorious reputation not long after it was announced in the early 2000's. It underwent numerous different designs, names, and builds before finally getting released in late 2007. Even then, some felt that the game was still a rushed beta, and honestly it was. It wasn't until several patches that the game was decently stable. However to many people, the game's now-trademark atmosphere, brutal gameplay and unforgiving gameplay environment were enough to leave the game permanently ingrained in gamer's minds across the globe.

Flash forward to 2013, and this game still has a devoted modding community who are regularly working on and releasing ambitious new total conversions, weapon packs, gameplay tweaks and even restorations of previously-cut content.

This game must be experienced first-hand. Even the base 2007 game is still good today, though the game truly shines once one ventures out and starts downloading various mods that make the game several orders of magnitude better. This reviewer here prefers 'Oblivion Lost 2.2', which is based on a previous version of the game -- it restores many gameplay concepts and features that were left out for reasons unknown. It adds in more weapons, more suits, creatures, improved graphics, smoother performance, vehicles, and even free-play. It also adds in complete A-Life, which is unlocked after a player beats the game with the best ending, where every STALKER in the Zone begins to operately totally freely, which can open up many unique scenarios which no two players will experience the same.

The story is fairly gripping, though players expecting constant cutscenes and characters who never shut up will be disappointed. The story is told primarily through notes left in PDA's and some interactions with other humans face-to-face, though the few cutscenes there are do a wonderful job of contributing to the haunting atmosphere the game promotes.

The gameplay is tough and unforgiving -- this game isn't for the noobs out there. You won't be charging at enemies doing 1080-degree backflips while going for no-scopes here. You have to pick your shots and battles carefully. Sometimes it's better to flee than fight, or use stealth to completely dodge enemies (or ambush them to take their loot!)

STALKER in essence is an FPSRPG. You've got the traditional first-person shooter gameplay, combined with an inventory system, a stats system for both weapons and equipment, the latter of which directly affects the player's endurance and performance, quests, NPC's to interact with, and a fully dynamic open world that is constantly alive.

The harsh environment, dubbed "The Zone", is as much a challenge as the humans and mutants you must deal with on a daily basis. Due to the events which took place prior to the game, the Zone has changed drastically, and there are mutant creatures and "anomalies" scattered everywhere. Careless players will go on raids without enough equipment, or foolishly walk through dark areas without watching their step, only to find themselves getting insta-gibbed by an anomaly.

The A.I. is nothing to snicker at either, and they get even tougher if you play with most mods. Don't be surprised to be in a firefight with someone, only to lose track of them and then have them sneak up behind you and offload half a magazine into the back of your skull.

Shadow of Chernobyl also boasts a pretty barebones multiplayer component, but in all honesty, this pales in comparison to the single-player experience, which is a shame. It can be fun for a little while, but several gameplay decisions quickly make it evident that it's easy to become overpowered against other players, making the experience very un-STALKER like.

All in all, this game is worth the asking price, even years later. Buy this damned game, it's worth it.
