DOOM 1

Just realized I am basically completing games, since DOOM 1 + 2 is a collection, so I'll review all of them.

Doom 1 is probably one of the better OldDOOM games, the level design is great and feels good to go through the levels, with closed spaces and what not. Enemies are cool and all balanced, none feel like they are extremely annoying. Each Episode was fine, but the one I suffered most on was Knee Deep In Hell, as the start was very rough with the lack of ammo, something that also happened in earlier episodes save for the first, I am playing through all the DOOMs on Ultra-Violence btw.
Music is a classic, the old one is good, but the new remastered one is even better, sounds fantastic.
Guns are good, I really like their looks and the sound of some of them like the shotgun, rocket launcher and the plasma gun.
Story is pretty simple but I do like it.

DOOM 2

Same thoughts as DOOM 1 for everything I wont mention here.

Level design took a fall, some times you will feel lost whilst playing a level, it seems like they tried experimenting with more big and wider maps, which is fine, but I feel as it doesn't work on a game like DOOM as there are no weapons that are really meant for long range, save for rocket launcher, and the normal shotgun can also work, but it's fine. Icon of Sin kinda sucks too, it's just memorable.

As for guns, it remains the same but my beloved Super Shotgun is here and I love it.

The new enemies rock, I like their designs and they really spice up the gameplay, some annoying ones are unfortunately added though, like the chaingunner and Pain Elemental.

Master Levels for DOOM 2

This is a mixed bag, it's a pack of maps that are made by modders, but they mostly just suck ass, as most of the time, it's very confusing on where to go, and the way forward is through something really really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid like a go through wall, or a tight INVISIBLE LEDGE on a wall that you just have to GUESS that it's there to win, it's really mid.

TNT:EVILUTION

Had fun with this one, doesn't reach the same rank as DOOM 1 or 2, but not a bad game, especially if it was made by modders, also has some cool OST that plays, some stinker maps though like Central Processing. Didn't ruin the game for me though.

Plutonia Experiment
It's challenging and level design is good, with some being harder versions of maps from DOOM II, however it was not fun seeing archviles, chaingunners and revenants being spammed every map, probably more of them then imps through the whole game.

No Rest for the Living

It's pretty short, but it's cool, I liked it.

Sigil I

It's interesting, I got used to playing WADs based on DOOM 2, so playing one based on DOOM was a nice change of pace. It's a difficult one that has interesting tricks, like tight spaces, purposefully giving you barely enough ammo to scrape by, and using Cyberdemons as obstacles.

Legacy of Rust

An amazing expansion to DOOM, it actually blows all the other games out of the water imo, even DOOM I & II which were my favourites, I loved everything, the new enemies, weapons, soundtrack. Level design and texture work were great, the levels were actually amazing, Soul Silo was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stunning to see, the best map out of the campaign no doubt for me. It's worth your time.

As for the collection itself? It's great, packs all the expansions and a bit more into one big package, definitely worth your money, and sure, the port has some quirks, but I'm sure Nightdive will fix them as time goes, they have done it with their other remasters of ID games like Quake.

Not really gonna type up a storm, it's a fun arena shooter, love the gun designs, soundtrack's good, so are the graphics, cop it if you like arena shooters, it does well in that department.

It's a classic game that's inspired plenty of indie games in style, gameplay, ost, etc., I've wanted to play it fully for a while but never actually went through with it until recently.

Firstly, the graphics are actually kinda cool, it was made for the dreamcast, but due to it's innovative (at the time) cel-shaded style, it can stand the test of time and still look quite nice, I found the places really cool to go through and the characters' designs absolutely rock.

Then we've got another great thing JSR gets, the soundtrack, it's a genuinely amazing soundtrack, I cannot think of a single track I hated when it came up, and there's a handful of them.

Now, there's the gameplay itself, it does some things good but some other things terribly. The core loop of the gameplay is to go in, ride around the area and spray the areas with red arrows on top to take over the territory of a rival gang, after doing this in 2 levels for each gang's territory, the next level will be the final showdown where you gotta catchup each of three gang members in a level and tag their backs 10 times. Sounds cool but there's some things that bring this down, firstly is the movement, it's good but you have to be good too, it's a hard game to get used to, since one of the most important things, rail grinding, has a very strict hitbox that your character has to hit to actually grind on it, this will mess up your flow a lot, the camera can also get in your way with random adjustments that will change the direction you're moving towards, lastly the movement can be sort of slow when jumping out of a rail, you'll probably try to do something cool but the barely existing air control will ruin it for you.

Graffiti is an important part of this game, but it's executed in a poor way, as you have to halt your momentum completely to do a spray on a wall, save for small graffiti, where it's a simple button press. You can also change the art for the three types of graffiti you've got ( Small, Medium, Large), with graffiti souls that you collect around the levels.

Speaking of levels, at the end of each level, you'll get a score based how many points you racked up, which you get by tagging spots and doing tricks on rails, air and wall riding, the score also increases once you complete the level based on how much health you have and how many graffiti souls you grabbed. Your score from highest to lowest is:
-Jet
-Nitro
-Turbo
-Engine
-Motor
-Pedal

When you complete a level, sometimes you'll get challenged by someone back at the Garage (your turf), and it'll either be a race to one graffiti spot, which whoever tags first wins, or just copy three moves they'll do, once you win, you'll unlock them as a character.

Characters have three stats: Power, Technique and Graffiti. The ones you have to care about is Power and Graffiti. The former is how much health you got, the latter is a bit different, the higher their Graffiti, the less they can carry but higher points they get from tagging, lower is the opposite. Technique does change your speed on turning, but you can barely notice it.

The story is really basic but it's not bad, and works, characters are cool and I like DJ Professor K.
