Low poly style in modern games done right. Devil Daggers looks awesome in my opinion. It has a haunting atmosphere where the sounds help you be aware of your surroundings and unnerve you at the same time. With or without friends to race against, in the time attack of survival that this game is, I just want to try one more run before quitting.

Narrative that wants to explore emotions, and dare dwell in that place and play with you.

In practice Firewatch is a game about exploration of both the environment and the well written characters and dialogue. The two main characters are such a big part of the experience, that if you don't like them, you will probably not like the game either.

This is a game with a message that's not necessarily delivered in your face. The type that tends to leave me researching perspectives on what really happend for hours after the game has ended.
If you tend to like games like Gone Home or would like a more active Dear Esther. If you tend to like the relatively short and focused games that are food for thought, rather than mechianically challenging. Chances are you'll probably like Firewatch.

A glorified cow-clicker. In the mean sense of it. Godus feels built to be sold, making for attractive screenshots, with the history of Peter Molyneux and his excellent, actual god-games. As soon as that transaction is completed, there's no game to this.

The most frustrating part of it all is that it should be good. With that in mind, and the fact that will never change even if I wanted to believe it, I have to discourage people from spending any money on this game. The strategy genre Godus pretends to belong to is populated with so much better games. I would not even be surprised there are better cow-clickers. Perhaps Molyneux just want to cash in on his name a bit before he retires. A thought that saddens me.

While reminiscent of the brilliant The Swapper at first glance, they're quite different games. Both sets up an eerie atmosphere in an aftermath to be discovered and puzzle through. Resemblances end there. The Fall intertwines puzzles and combat where you get to find ways to unlock the abilities you need to carry forward. What makes this interesting enough to recommend despite the games wonky controls is the plot and perspective of the protagonist, ARID. She's an AI limited by protocols onboard a combat suit. Its pilot is unconscious and needs help to survive, and protocol can only be overridden if the safety of the pilot is otherwise jeopardized.

Probably the one game I would bring to desertion with naught but a computer and lots of time. Too bad I in reality don't have the time for one game this epic, for there is still so much left to accomplish in Skyrim.

This is Tim Schafer at his best. Focusing on imaginative worlds and characters. Both managing to right off the bat hook my curiosity, and through at least Act 1 maintaining that interest. Though Tim doesn't work alone of course. Double Fine is this rare company that can produce these games that makes me genuinly laugh. Partly thanks to the solid delivering of the dialogue by a quite renowned cast. I personally appreciate this atmosphere being literally painted in Broken Age. A style along with the music and surprising sound production making it all very cozy and welcoming, but occasionally tainted with a hint of darkness. Along that line of contrasts, the sun has its spots. A Double Fine game is not complete without its issues, though thankfully seldom of a game breaking level. Broken Age has quite a bunch of frame drops, and sometimes the layer sorting of the beautifully rendered art goes awry. Worst part of this all? The wait for Act 2.
