Solid potential here - the concept of the position where matches happen affecting units in their lines is pretty neat and a fun twist on other Match 3s I've played.

Giving this a lot of grace for being EA and v0.015 at the time I'm writing this. Needs lots of QoL work in the UI and it's definitely not a finished game, but it's got real solid bones that are worth building on. Keep going!

There are some really good things about Ravenbound, and it has its appeal, but it lacks the depth I crave in order to get a lot of play out of a roguelike. Not enough variety in builds and playstyles, not enough of a sense of variation from run to run.

It's got the bones of a great game, but it just isn't done yet. But the devs have announced it's feature complete, which means it won't ever become the game it deserves to be.

There's fun to be had, but not enough for me to recommend it.

Great gunplay and movement, good level and enemy design, very satisfying roguelike progression, and enjoyable boss fights.

Needs some balancing, certain weapons are probably too good and some are basically useless, but the bones are there for sure.

I just wish they didn't have the absolutely terrible jumping puzzles between levels. It's 2024 can we stop pretending that platforming is rewarding?

Can't recommend as-is but it's super, super close to being excellent.

Immediately shows you its potential and its weaknesses. It looks like it could be a lot of fun with a little polish. Minor translation issues and quirks in the UI limit the fun, but the core experience of exploring rooms and doing turn-based combat is solid, and the tetris backpack mechanic is cool.

Only took a few rooms to be clear it needs more development to reach its potential but that potential is really there.

Colony sim roguelike that delivers hard on both the colony sim and the roguelike elements. Really great systems, all the control and knob-turning I love in colony sims, multiple paths to victory in every settlement. Progression between settlements is achievable and rewarding.

Harpies, who hurt you? I love you anyway.

Opening cinematics and intro fight scene showed real promise. I was immediately interested in getting to know Briar and Lute, and the gameplay shows potential in the first few fights.

But the camera is unforgivable. It takes a fixed position away from the character but also glides along in an unpredictable pattern, making navigation a mess. It makes it so you can't even run in a straight line because the shifting perspective constantly changes what "forward" means. There is no excuse for a camera this bad.

There's a ton of promise here and I would love to play this game, but 10 minutes with that camera was all I could stomach.

If you play games for the plot, you'll hate this. But it absolutely scratches the "I want to play Diablo but Blizzard is a terrible company so I need to look elsewhere" itch.

I really like the depth in the character customization and build options, between multiple passive trees, individual skill specialization trees, itemization options, and more. It can be a lot to take in but if you're looking for that kind of depth (but with a little more sense if direction than games like Path of Exile) then I think Last Epoch is right in the sweet spot.

EDIT: I just saw the development update in which the devs said they consider MYM to be complete. In light of that, I wouldn't recommend the game. After posting my initial review (unedited below) I explored the game a little more and confirmed that what I'd seen was all there was to see. There just isn't enough variety available in terms of Custodian builds and weapons/traps/creatures to keep replayability up. The game doesn't have the depth it deserves.

They did an excellent job with the bits they did make, they just made about half as many as the game needs, and they've announced that they're done, so it's not going to become what it could have been.

First impression review after an hour:

Really good concepts, probably the best implementation of "build dungeons and raid other people's dungeons" I've seen to date.

I can see the ceiling though: there don't seem to be a ton of weapons and traps to unlock, as well as Custodians (i.e. playable characters) who don't have distinct abilities, they're largely just passive buff loadouts. What that means is that playstyles and options for base designs have a cap on replayability. Maybe there are more things to find that I just don't even get to see until I make progress, but if the toolset I'm shown now is the full scope, it's a little thin.

What's there is very well made and well executed, and I'm definitely going to get my money's worth. But the biggest concern I have when I look at progression is "how quickly will I run out of fun new ways to play?"
