YOU CAN FLY ANYWHERE! The feeling of entering and exiting a planet's atmosphere is something else! :D

Edit: Changing review to positive to help out the devs, as they responded very quickly, listened to the gamers and helped us with our issues.

I really wanted to like this at launch - the trailers and Bioware dev history gave me a lot of excitement - but I can't recommend it yet.

Pros:

  • Realm cards are a breath of fresh air and the concept is a brilliant idea.
  • The overall aesthetic quality/art style is dreamy and nostalgic (slightly reminiscent of BioShock Infinite).
  • Sound design.
  • Puk.

Cons:

  • The combat is clunky, boring, and repetitive, regardless of enemy type.
  • You have to be online, constantly, resulting in lag for players who live far from the servers (despite being advertised as a singleplayer and co-op game).
  • The build limit is woefully unsuitable for players who are dreaming of big creative builds (like me).
  • Realm areas, while beautiful, lack diversity and feels unpolished in some areas (like areas with water).
  • AI lacks the I.

Overall, I sincerely wish the developers all the best with a fantastic idea that could give an edge to the other myriad survival games out there. Unfortunately, it's just not ready for the real world, even in its Early Access state.

Incredibly fun. Simple, pretty, great effects. Don't have to be a crazy, red-eyed, spitting-red-bull-at-the-screen-in-rage competitive person to enjoy. Woohoo!

I'm just horribly disappointed. What else is there really to say? Hopefully they transform this into something as great as the Witcher 3. Sounds like the higher ups are just greedy and overworking the real heroes - the programmer/creative teams (who said it wasn't ready but they released anyway).

Edit: Game has improved dramatically. What a pleasant surprise :D

Status: Failure

This game had the potential to be something great. Being able to explore beautiful landscapes, tame creatures and explore lore - with base building and survival elements - got me really excited. As an avid survival-genre sandbox gamer, I wanted this game to succeed. It didn't.

The game has many, many bugs and glitches. Getting attached to your tames and levelling them is a huge mistake as you will eventually lose them to a glitch and likely not in a glorious fight with a ferocious fiend (which is how it should be).

The lure of renting a home in a town or city falls away quickly when you realise you can't place any furniture inside, or at least, only one small chest awkwardly near the entrance. And it's not like it's pre-furnished. It's just an ugly, barren room that you don't want to return to in a hurry.

All in all, the game is filled with bugs and glitches that destroy any excitement or perceived immersion you might feel watching a trailer or seeing the screenshots. The quest rewards are disappointing - something akin to finding a PlayStation 1 in PlayStation 5 packaging.

Save your money and go play outside.

The game in its current state, albeit early access, is like an endless PUBG match (with complex survival mechanics). Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I am looking forward to the base fortification system (and vehicles) because I don't much like running for endless loot without a base set up. I think the game has a ton of potential and the developers seem serious about the game (they are passionate based on what I've read and seen, with regards to feedback with the community over the past couple of years). If you've got the spare moola (it's really not expensive), I'd buy the game, even if just to support the devs. What is in the game seems decent (the detailed survival mechanic is great) but is bare bones when you compare to what they promise the game to be. But it is only a few days into EA. Definitely going to revisit.

Overall, a promising start. I recommend it to people who are fans of survival fps but would hold back until the game's a little fleshed out (for people who don't like long stretches of walking simulator).

Quite simply, my favourite survival game. It's the modern Tamagotchi!
