It's ok, but too short to take advantage of planning out a build. If you play it 5 times, you've pretty much seen all it has to offer.

your hands will bleed almost as much as your ears! Green shot recommended. Tractor beam is for deleting certain high HP enemies. Your option/helper ships that appear after powerup block enemy projectiles. Very slow speed with no speedups, even compared to its contemporaries, and your ship is large. Probably Toaplan's worst shooter in the arcade

this is probably not the version of the game you are thinking of - the MegaDrive/Genesis has highly superior music and sfx, in addition to the infamous intro

I'm not a huge fan of the weapons in this game, but the level design, enemy design, sound, and everything else are so on point that I can't help recommend it to everyone

update: I finished the Black Labyrinth and it's super sweet. The weapons won me over after all and, I reiterate, this game has some of the coolest and most otherworldly levels you've ever seen. This is a game and DLC well worth the price, great job devs

this isn't a bad game by any means, but it's extremely repetitive and cramped. I appreciated its sense of humor for about the first few hours, then was tired of it. FPS does not stand out from its contemporaries

R-Type is one of the most intense and satisfying shooters ever made -- take a few minutes to play around with the Force pod system. It can be attached to the front or back of your ship, fires independently of your ship, and absorbs enemy shots. Beating a level in R-Type will make you feel great and I recommend this version for every age and skill level!
