can't recommend yet, because they couldn't be bothered to ensure that people could actually load and play the game on launch day. Been a straight 4 and a half hours of staring at stuck progress bars, and "queue" messages. my play time shown = 0 minutes of actual playing.

UPDATE 11-19-2024 8:00pm eastern: sim finally let me in. I loaded free flight straight to my home airport. I had some trouble initially getting VR touch controls to work, but ultimately I was able to get VR working very well. Performance in VR is very smooth, and the inputs using touch controls are far less "finicky" than fs2020. Dialing in precise values isn't as huge a chore because the inputs are less sensitive and move more smoothly.

Main issue I'm currently having is not being able to find a way to open the game menu, or open the in cockpit menu bar (if it even exists anymore?) where you can set the weather and time of day, and do all the co-pilot and various other things. Used to be docked at the top of the screen in FS2020, I haven't been able to find an equivalient here in FS2024. And not being able to find the controller binding to open the game menu with the touch controllers is annoying.

As far as simulation goes, visuals are a step up and look great. I love the rough terrain. I LOVE being able to land anywhere, and get out of my plane and walk around. Works great in VR. There doesn't appear to be a "turn" control on the touch controllers, so to turn around while exploring the world on foot you have to physically turn your body, but that's not a big deal. It's very immersive!

Flight dynamics are greatly improved. I notice the finer fidelity of control surfaces and lift, especially when in slow flight/stall. it feels good.

I'm switching my recommend to "Yes" with the caveat that there are still a lot of little issues to be worked out, but I don't have any doubt that these things will be straightened out over time.

Happy flying!!

Its a faithful recreation of the original game, with much improved graphics. If you loved the original, you will love this one even more! There are genuinely moments in the game where I stopped and looked in amazement at the cool set pieces and environments. The story is exactly the same as it was in the original, and that is a good thing.

I tried playing this with a friend and the multiplayer seems very poorly implemented. simple things like passing items from one person to the other doesn't work. item states don't sync between players. It feels like with all of the experience Vertigo has from their previous VR games, this one should have been a lot better. This game is showing its seams, and there are a LOT of them

even running off a fast SSD drive, the movie buffers every few seconds, making this almost impossible to watch and enjoy. Cool idea, but seems like hardware isn't quite there yet. It also just kinda looks like animated photogrammetry.. so, kinda cool, but also, kinda just weird looking.

this is a great tribute to the original. The atmosphere is incredibly well done. The fact that they've managed to include the FMV like the original had, but have done it in a completely new way, somehow projecting the video onto 3D models of the characters, you can actually walk AROUND the FMV in VR. It's really impressive! The acting is just as cheesy, but in a really good way, as the original. The puzzles so far have been very satisfying, and exploring the house in VR is just a real pleasure! So glad they've created this amazing game!

Baldur's Gate is given a worthy continuation with this game. All of the great D&D mechanics are here, and the story is fantastic! Having a ton of fun playing through this with my Wife, who has been playing co-op baldur's gate games with me ever since the original released back in 98

There is potential here. But like so many games, this is riddled with bugs and problems. I've only played this in VR so far, so not sure how much of this effects the flat version. Right away, you'll notice the aiming beam from your hand gets hidden behind the menu layer, so you can't see what you're trying to select in the settings. Then as soon as you load into the game, you notice that shadows and reflections are rendered differently in each eye, making for a glitchy looking flickery mess in VR. I ignored that because the environments and graphics are very nice looking. Then you start using the manipulator tool that you get right in the beginning of the game, and realize it's full of bugs and glitches. I took a transport pod to another area, and when i went to leave, I wasn't able to open any of the pods, so I thought maybe there was more I needed to do before I could leave, but it turns out the pods just wouldn't let me open them if I was using the manipulator in my left hand.. as soon as I used the tool with my right hand, the open/clone functionality worked.

I think this one needs a little more time in the oven before it's really ready for the world.
