this is very good for a free game. worth trying

The original Hirameki release of Ever17 from 2005 is unironically my favorite game of all time. So I was obligated to buy this port on launch, even if it came 20 years late.

I'm leaving this review as positive for now, but I sadly suspect it will change to negative the deeper I get into my playthrough.

Pros so far:
- The music is the original, remixed by the original composer Takeshi A.Bo as I understand. Because of this, the music in this port is thankfully good so far.
- The new title screen OP is ok. The original is better IMO but the new one isn't bad.
- Uses the 2d character sprites instead of the uncanny looking Xbox 360 3d models
- Runs really well on steam deck so far.

Cons:
- Bad grammar errors here and there. For $30, on a PC release of a +10 year old port, this isn't really acceptable IMO.
- The script keeps changing between "Kid" and "Boy" for the Kid. I have suspicions of why the new script does this, and it will suck big-time if my suspicions are proven out in the later routes.

it's good. The boss battles and minigames were the highlight for me. I am less sold on the core rhythm rifts, it is a steep learning curve compared to the other content.

This isn't a negative but some of the decisions feel a little trolly to series vets (bats being multiple hits instead of 1 has been surprisingly hard to internalize, especially since slimes are mostly the same).
