As someone relatively new to the survival horror genre, before Silent Hill 2, I played RE2 Remake, RE4 Remake, and Alan Wake 2. All of those games were superb and had their strengths, but Silent Hill 2 was a step above for me. The puzzles were pretty standout and made sense in the world and the setting. The story felt like there were real stakes and there was payout to completing it. There was a sense of supernatural horror and dread while remaining very grounded, fitting its rural mid-America setting.

This is the perfect game to accompany a podcast or a show you're watching on the side. There's an endless amount of things to do but it never feels grindy or tedious.
