As an active worldbuilder and game master for TTRPGs, this game has tickle every little bit of my storyteller nerves.

Now this is completely biased, but the fantasy setting is just fantastic for this game genre. To top it off, the systems Triumph Studios has in place just makes sense and the game is extremely intuitive. For instance, magic is a prominent resources besides the general gold and food. It's simple yet profound how this resource regularly comes into play with a circumstance that makes sense.

AOW4 invites you into its vibrant scenery and extremely interactive world. Here are a few of the systems I kick my feet over as a fangirl hehe


- Leaders: The face of your match that can eventually prestige from their victory into your "pantheon" as a reoccuring and responsive NPC

- Armies & Society Traits: These are both thematic and practical passives that help give your army an identity

- Heroes: These are disposable, yet quirkly little characters that add a nice RNG yet min-maxy element to your otherwise cookie cutter armies.

- Pantheon: Your extensive archive for leaders that you have beaten the game with. For me, it's a rewarding way to view the "main characters" I like to roleplay as from my TTRPG games.

- Events/Ancient Wonders: From beautiful splash art to engaging texts- It's never a dull moment when youre exploring your pregenerated world. Again its simple, yet profound in the way it makes the game feel alive.


I have a deep gratitude for the fact that this game literally allows me to live out each of my fantastical fantasy fantasies.

P.S. It's worth noting that I come from 4X games like Sid Meier's- which has a very realistic alternate history setting. Something that I realize Im not a huge fan of in retrospect.
