TLDR: Amazing ideas but devs clearly didn't have the money to create a "proper" game.

The ideas and concepts behind the game itself are amazing. I like a roguelike spin on a brawler game, I like the setting, I like the mechanics shown here (e.g. no health regen, limited amount of dodges per round, perform X hits to earn new ammo, etc.).

I do however not like this game in the way the devs tried to actualize their ideas. I feel like, if the devs just pitched this as a concept and then handed it over to another studio, we could have gotten an amazing result. This title however, suffers from what appears to be a severe lack of funding.

1. Voice acting started off bad and just got worse and worse - constant mispronunciations and some sentences simply don't make sense in English. What I also don't get is the "AI Companion" character voiced by TTS when we literally have real life AI models that can perfectly imitate real people without issue.

2. Extremely minimalistic UI, which seems to be a consequence of "we don't have the time to work on this further" rather than a stylistic choice.

3. Following the above point, literally no introduction to the game. You start, spawn in a room and then walk off into your first run with no intro or explanation except for a vending machine that you can talk to to watch short videos on the controls.

4. All around jankiness and lack of polish, e.g. there's a bug where the camera just keeps veering wherever you moved it last instead of standing still.

5. Combat feels floaty and inconsistent which is sad, because it seems they took inspiration from WB Games Arkham combat and could've really spun this into something cool here.

If this was an early access release as V0.3 or something I'd be super hyped but as a full release I really don't see why someone should buy this.

Comparison is the thief of joy but compared to other titles for 24,50€ this just doesn't hold up at all.

It's ok, but it's waaaaaaaay to expensive. I got my save to 100% within 28 hours, with at least 8 of those hours being me leaving the game running while I went to the kitchen to cook or did laundry or something else.

Yeah NG+ is a thing but the side content is extremely limited in scope anyway so it's really not worth replaying.

If (for whatever reason) you wanted to do a NG+ run you could probably extend your playtime by a couple hours but considering that you restart the game with all abilities etc. unlocked the second run wouldn't last you a full 20 hours either.

For the average player this will be 20ish hours of enjoyment for 60 bucks requiring a ridiculous system to run bug-free.

Bit sad as some of the twists on the "classic" Spider-Man story were quite cool, for example:

Spider-Man becoming Anti-Venom or MJ temporarily becoming Scream which surely has some consequences down the line.

I just don't see how I'd be able to justify the price tag to someone else when there are so many other good options you could get for this money that would keep you entertained for much much longer. Maybe buy this on sale or if you are an EXTREME Spider Man fan and suffering withdrawal from not owning this particular game.

Early Access Review
I love this game to death but beware of copium addicts in the reviews - this is ultimately still a Path of Exile game and will, despite all changes, still be very similar to PoE1 once early access is done.

I'm seeing a lot of people that are either frustrated that things are supposedly too slow and too punishing or praising the game for so drastically reducing the speed of the game. The issue is, these people haven't even finished the campaign.

I have one character at level 72 in maps now and I can tell you this: While the combat is different and it is more skill-based (thank god) this game is only marginally slower than PoE1. I am running maps with breach as main mechanic and regularly have more foes on the screen than I can even properly comprehend and then proceed to detonate half a screen worth of enemies with ice strikes. I don't even want to know how proper "build creators" are zooming through this game.

If you want to play this because you perceive it as a "slow game" then you'll be sorely disappointed - it is a bit slower than PoE1 sure, but if you're not ass speed will pick up very quickly.

At the same time, if you're one of the people complaining because you think this is slow or too punishing, it's time to accept that you're just not good and get better. It's still PoE after all.

TLDR: PoE but different, a bit better, way more refined. Easier for newcomers in the PoE space not because of a lack of complexity, but because of a lack of bloat. Keep in mind that this is open beta and many things will change until release. Greatly recommended.

ONCE AGAIN I HAVE HAD A PREMONITION AND ATTAINED POSSESSION OF THIS BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF ART BEFORE EVEN THE WARLORD HIMSELF.

THE MERCHANTS GUILD HAS GAINED SUCH STRENGTH THAT REALITY ITSELF BENDS TO OUR WILL, BLESSING US WITH VISIONS OF SSETH BEFORE HE SPEAKS.

SUCH IS THE POWER OF THE MERCHANT'S GUILD.

Ooga booga I dislike game because my PC from 2002 and developer no make graphically impressive game work play on my hardware

Ooga booga I dislike game because not carbon copy of Fromsoftware mechanics

Ooga booga I dislike game because this no feel like souls like

Your brains are so small it's hilarious, this wasn't advertised as a new souls-like, it's an ARPG taking inspiration from the genre, as such any complaints about how you dislike that things aren't identical to the last 20 copycat titles that did nothing new just make you look dumb.

This game has quick leveling, no XP-loss on death (but gear break on death), randomized loot and lots of grinding for materials or XP as well as completing bounties for gear and currency. You will do these things, to gear up to beat the sidequests and continue through the campaign and sometimes you might hit a wall that you will have to overcome by improving your character rather than just finding the perfect dodge timing - as is the case in any ARPG.

The first item enchant I hit (after 45 minutes of playing) changed my hammer so that it refunds the stamina used on an attack if I hit an enemy, which would be 100% gamebreaking in any actual souls-like title. This game clearly isn't balanced or designed around being a souls-like so stop trying to force your absolutely ungrounded and narrow expectations on it.

If you buy this looking for a souls-like you are dumb (and apparently unable to read the store page) and you will not be happy with your purchase.

If you play this like a souls-like you are dumb and unable to grasp basic structuring and design choices in videogames and you will suck.

If you are looking for a punishing ARPG with more skill based combat than other entries into the genre and some thematic inspiration from souls-likes (grim dark tone, stat system) you will probably enjoy this.
