What started as me skeptical about a game whose jump to 3D didn't immediately hook me, has now led to me 100% completing the game today as of writing, with 153.2 hours in the game. This game is absolutely INCREDIBLE, and I want to write a little about why, so people can understand why you NEED to play this game.

First things first, the elephant in the room: This game is a roguelike, and a sequel to an EXTREMELY difficult 2D pixel art roguelike. Thankfully, this game is FAR more accessible to new players with better difficulty scaling, better balance, and an overall less sharp difficulty curve. This helps the game feel enjoyable for casual and hardcore players alike. It's a game that gets more difficult the longer you play it (literally!) but don't let that scare you! The curve is not that insane and is something you get used to quickly.

Another aspect of this game that sets it apart from others is how it handles items. Every item you get in this game can stack.

INFINITELY.

This means you get any item that increases your movement speed? You can stack that to INSANE amounts and just ZOOM across the map. Same goes with items such as the focus crystal, which are just a flat damage increase if you are close to an enemy, or the ukelele, an item that has a chance to chain lightning across some enemies when you attack. This on top of the INSANE amount of variety in characters (WHICH ALL HAVE ALTERNATE ABILITY LOADOUTS BY THE WAY) and you have yourself a game that never stops being fun. Plus, all the unlockables are tied to achievements, so getting achievements gives you more items to play with!

Lastly, the enemies in this game are super fun to play against, with a really great variety of enemies that extend even into loop with new elite variants to fight against. Also, multiplayer! The multiplayer is great!

All in all, BUY. THIS. GAME. Even if you don't like roguelikes, I can GUARANTEE you will enjoy this game. As someone who felt like they were starting to fall out of enjoying roguelikes and just felt like they weren't really for me anymore, this game changed that. Easily the greatest roguelike I have ever played.

EDIT: 248 hours into the game, with the DLC released, still just as fantastic. Get the game and it's DLC.

EDIT 2: 409 hours into this game with still more eclipse levels to beat, and I'm playing this game just about every other day these days. New DLC is on the horizon, and I can't see myself stopping playing this game for the foreseeable future. Incredible game!!

EDIT 3: 500 hours into the game, even with the kinda botched DLC launch for Seekers of the Storm, I think the DLC is still solid, and the game is still great. Here's hoping the Gearbox fixes it fully!

This game is one of the most powerful, impactful, and profound games I've ever played. It currently stands as my favorite game of all time, and the ending has been on my mind for weeks, even after the game has been beaten. The game is a fantastic RPG too, with fun gameplay mechanics, a great artstyle, and a great soundtrack, but the story is the shining factor here.

You are doing yourself a disservice if you do not play this game.

Guess it's about time I review this!

This game is superb, being one of the most innovative and interesting multiplayer experiences I've ever played. I absolutely love the back and forth that this game can bring, between the defuser trying to explain a flickering morse code light to the expert trying to figure out what the heck they even mean! It's super fun.

However the main replayability here is mods. Mods expand the game into absurdly huge scale, and that's what really makes this game shine!

Play this game!

This game made all my friends hate each other and I learned how to lie.

Very epic.

RIP & TEAR, UNTIL IT IS DONE.

This game is somehow even better then DOOM 2016, barring a slightly annoying lack of ammo in some cases. Great fun, heart pounding soundtrack, it's DOOM, what more do you need?

INVERSUS is a game about shooting the other colored square with your bullets and making trails using said bullet that only you can walk through. Sounds confusing right? Well don't worry. It's only a little bit confusing. Anyway, INVERSUS is a game I can definitely recommend, but while it is an amazing game, no game is perfect.

THE PROS
  • The gameplay is very very well done, very smooth, and every mistake you make is always your fault
  • Arcade mode is a great addition to the game and is very frantic and fun
  • The soundtrack is just... awesome
  • It has a really amazing and nice community
  • Best. Developer. Ever. He constantly does contests to win steam keys and is almost always willing to talk :D
  • Very, VERY fun with friends
  • Color palettes help switch up the game look
  • Emotes.
  • Very easy to learn, hard to master, especially in arcade

THE CONS
  • The biggest con is the lack of a big community. This game is VERY small in terms of its playerbase and could definitely use a LOT more players to make finding matches in online searching much easier.
  • The price is a tad too high for what the game is, I feel like 10 dollars or lower is a good price for it.
  • Only three modes, the default 1v1 and 2v2 and arcade, also with a coop. Could definitely use some more interesting ones.

Overall, INVERSUS is an amazing concept that is put together so so well, but is definitely lacking in its playerbase. My suggestion would be to buy this game, and whenever the game goes on sale or something, tell all your friends! The gameplay is spot on, its intense, it has a good singleplayer, but I already mentioned all this in the review.

JUST GO AND BUY IT ALREADY 10/10

With 92 hours at the time of this review, I think its finally time I sat down and wrote a good review for this game. This review is going to be in a pro-con format so yah. Review Time!

Pros
-The story is very well made and interesting, and a good motivator to keep trying to beat the first character (Cadence)
-Rhythm and Roguelike mashups that works perfectly
-Nice difficulty curve
-Lots of variety in runs and characters, so as to not feel repetitive (which it doesn't)
-Amazing soundtrack with now 4 different variants (2 of them you can only get through workshop mods)
-Every death is your fault, not the games
-The gameplay is spot on, with each weapon feeling really fun to play
-Local Co-op is very fun to play and is executed well
-Amazing community
-Practically infinite replayability with all the achievements and things to unlock
-Steam Achievements/Steam trading cards
-And so much more

Neutral
-The game is very difficult to get the hang of, considering its very different from other roguelikes (this isn't a bad thing, it's just a thing I thought I'd point out
-Some of the characters are pretty difficult (Once again, not a bad thing, just something I thought I would point out.)

Cons
-Part of the story is unlocked by Aria, who is a VERY difficult character to beat, or even get anywhere with (luckily youtube exists)
-Coda
-That's it really

Overall I give this game a 10/10. This game is honestly the best roguelike Ive ever played, with its awesome replayability, cool characters and a very interesting story, and its gameplay is spot on
Very much recommend!
