Early Access Review
This is an excellent game which gets better with every update. The gun play is very addictive and the loot system works really well. Looking forward to future updates.

I wrote quite a detailed review of this which didn't post and I really can't be bothered to do it again.

I used klik n play when I was 12, the games factory then fusion, then fusion dev on steam as part of a humble bundle so in reality I have thousands of hours of experience with clickteam products.

The long and short, use unity or unreal with the Bolt or Blueprint visual scripting systems. They take slightly longer to learn but are infinitely more flexible than Fusion.

Fusion is overpriced, limited and very outdated.

If you can get the dev version for less than £30 then I'd say its worth it to learn basic game development but in the long run unreal or unity are going to be far more worth your time.

I played this game initially through oculus but got a refund, then read that a lot of the issues were virtual desktop specific. I ended up getting it cheaper through steam. As a result it shows only 30 minutes play time but it's probably closer to 2 hours.

First things first. Most negative reviews, particularly those with specific gripes are almost all 100% correct. This game is a bit of a mess. However, I do believe that for the price there is value for money (though it might be worth waiting for a sale), and I hope that the developer starts getting fixes out ASAP.

One complaint I have which I've not seen in other reviews is the sprint system. Every time the character touches the scenery, and sometimes seemingly for no reason the sprint stops. As far as I know there is no stamina bar and I can't see any reason for this but it makes the scavenger missions difficult.

I'd recommend that Quest users play this Via usb cable instead of virtual desktop until the fix is out because I had an unfairly low opinion of the game before I'd tried both. With USB it's almost a different game.

It's far from perfect but it is still fun. Running in to a room of 10 zombies and killing them all with a single light strike to the head with a machete is fun, even if it is easy.

Also, please don't compare this to saints and sinners. If you have a choice between the two, get s&s. It is a better game, but Onslaught has its own place as an arcade slaughter fest which allows you to have the fun of killing masses of zombies with no concern for stamina, breaking weapons or a power sense of dread. It's just silly, messy fun.

The shooting is great, the creatures are great, some power-ups are great.

Finding the teleporter can be a pain in the arse because other than red floaties very close to it there is no real visual indicator at all, or if there is its certainly not explained in game. Infact, almost nothing is explained in game, although you can pick it up pretty quickly. If the teleporter appears in the more open areas of open maps its fine, but in maps with a lot of verticality or narrow paths it is almost always more frustrating than its worth to carry on with a run if you haven't stumbled on the teleporter in the first 5 minutes. The hidden teleporter mechanic coupled with the difficulty ramping up on a timer can sometimes feel a bit unfair.

I also expected some kind of progression to carry over between lives however other this seems mostly limited to unlocking characters and you as a player learning the patterns of the creatures.

Even with these gripes I'd have to recommend the game because it is very, very fun, so dying doesn't seem too devastating.

Edit: I tried again tonight and just can't keep trying with the game.

Everything is so randomly generated that any success is down to luck. Some runs I get excellent power ups early on and stand a real chance, other runs I get useless power-ups and stand no chance. Neither way feels particularly fun. This is amplified in single player.

Yet again I was stuck looking for the teleporter for 20 minutes on the first level so by the time I reached the higher levels the game was impossibly difficult. I cannot fathom how this game got to 1.0 with the ridiculous teleporter/no map/no direction system. What is it for? Does the developer genuinely believe that stumbling around in the dark looking for a damn teleporter is why people want to play this game? Even if the player was told exactly where the teleporter is, surely part of the gameplay is the risk vs reward of finding chests for extra powerups before facing the teleporter monster? Going straight for the teleporter without searching for more power-ups vastly increases the chance of dying so there is every chance that knowing it's location could actually add a much needed layer of strategy to the game.

And that is the biggest issue. There is very little strategy and a lot of luck. There is basically no control over the power-ups you find. Some can be traded, but even that is at random. Even if they let the player choose a few starting power-ups which are added to the inventory on first unlock it would be a better system. Or allowing the player to bank power-ups mid-run to add to future lives? Just something to get away from the awful in-your-face randomness and lack of strategy/control of the game.

I even realised tonight that not only is there no progression between deaths, but you also don't carry the money you have earned between levels. Another exceptionally bad design choice. Why reward the player for their hard work when you could make it all for nothing? You might as well remove the power-ups between levels and remove all sense of progress at all. Just endlessly shooting enemies for no reward at all.

I get the feeling this is a multiplayer game which is technically possible to play in single player so it was left in to attract the single player market, sort of like deep rock galactic. Its obvious that the game is not designed to be played single player. Earlier I had at least 30 creatures all looking at and attacking me. I don't care who you are, its simply not possible to evade 5 or 6 attacks landing every second or two as you are the only player the beasties are focusing on. Especially when some of the bad guys are just too overpowered or quick and the game is merciless in randomly generating many, many, many mega powerful enemies at once. You can't keep track of 5 enemies throwing fireballs, 8 orbs floating and shooting, 3 teleporting powerful slashing monsters, the boss, 3 laser shooting enemies and christ knows how many bugs. If it is possible its certainly not enjoyable.

This game has excellent shooting, and some fun enemies (though many not so fun) but its just randomly generated to the point of being utterly pointless to play. You have zero control over the game. If you are doing well its because you were lucky enough to get a few decent power-ups, if you aren't doing well its because you were unfortunate enough to get useless power-ups or because you haven't been able to find a teleporter, causing the difficulty timer to jip you, or because harder enemies are spawned at random at the lower difficulty levels.

Hopefully it will be improved in future updates but right now its an incredibly unrewarding experience.

Absolutely love this game. I'd recommend it for anyone who loves the concept of games like Battlefield or COD but don't have the time or inclination to spend hours getting good enough to compete or even enjoy the online mode.

Its still very bare bones, there are for example several game modes but I couldn't find anything in the game to explain what they are however this is early access and even in its current sense is worth every penny, particularly at the summer sale price.

Graphics are basic and some of the built in maps are a little too bare to be useful but the good maps are excellent. There is a built in map editor which is a bit clunky but very functional. I've not dug in to steam workshop but a quick look shows some amazing support from a great community.

All in all I really do recommend this game, particularly for more casual gamers who want the battlefield experience without the shame of a 0.000001 K/D ratio.

I can't recommend the game as a single player experience. Although its technically possible and they added a drone to help, its just dull and traversal is clearly designed with a team in mind so often you'll end up stuck in a mine as a gunner with no real means of escape. I'm sure its great multiplayer but that's not my cup of tea. I think it would be better listed as a multiplayer only game.

I like the setting, graphics and inventory. I do like that you get a map and have to use landmarks to figure out where you are.

I didn't like the lack of any instructions, the rarity of any useful stuff (food, drink etc).

On my first spawn I started next to a pick axe (which I assumed was the norm until my second spawn), made my way to the coast and salvaged a few useless things, walked for 10 minutes to a small town but was killed by some kind of giant spitting spider-man before I got to a house. I tried to run away but his projectiles hit me enough to knock me down then he killed me.

I respawned in a forest near nothing so didn't have a weapon. I searched the road and bushes to find thatch, wood sticks and rocks to craft a hatchet. I made my way to a petrol station, then walked for 10 minutes to another petrol station and ultimately a town (pinewood or something?). There was a pretty cool storm which looked great, and while in the second petrol station some kind of radiation cloud or something made everything dark and started filling my rad meter. There didn't seem to be any way to get away from this, even hiding indoors. Luckily this cleared before I died but I've not been able to lower my radiation so another random event would likely kill me which seems unfair. I have no doubt that there is an item to reduce radiation, but the chances of finding it seem remote based on experience.

In total during my second spawn I found about 1000 pieces of rotten fruit/veg, some antibiotics, some aspirin, lots of rags (the most basic healing item), bullets but no guns, a tranquilliser gun but no darts, 3 items of unspoiled food, 10 or so spoiled food, 5 or so energy drinks, alcohol, 2 bandages, some lumber, 2 empty bottles, 1 military grade canteen, 3 salt, a device which measures temperature and radiation etc. I killed maybe 15 zombies? All with the hatchet.

So in short I was able to heal myself quite well, and defend myself with the hatchet I made, but after 1.5 hours of searching 30+ houses I didn't find anything to make me want to carry on playing. Most of the houses looked very similar, as did all of the things you search. It seems like a real grind and nothing about it is fun enough to carry on.

Its a shame because to look at the game is great, and it might be one of the most polished of all of the zombie survival games but ultimately its just a bit boring. I notice that a lot of other reviews going back quite a long time mention the lack of items in the game so it seems unlikely that the developers are going to do anything about it.

Unfortunately this is a half decent game let down by an extremely toxic community.

A solid 8/10 from me. I thought this was an excellent, utterly charming game.

Good humour and story, fun animation and interesting, sometimes maddeningly difficult game play.

It doesn't follow along the same lines as other games where one button controls one limb etc, relying more on animations than physics, and it doesn't allow the player to die, however mechanics such as enemies who regenerate health when you mess up give more or less the same effect as dying.

The end boss is a nightmare and was probably the only bit of the game which I didn't enjoy. By the time it ended the trial and error of trying to beat it had made the mechanics of the game tiresome. That being said, I'm not the most patient of gamers and the ending cut scene immediately made it worth the struggling and swearing.

It took me around 1.5 hours to complete so is quite short but does add time trial mode for each section you beat for replayability. I was more than happy with the value for money after my one play through.
