Perfect adventure game with language based puzzles. Art design and music were superb and matched the atmosphere well. The puzzles manage to be intuitive whilst making you feel smart as you solve them. Took me about 9 hours to complete so didn't outstay its welcome. Ideal for fans of the Golden Idol games or others which feature a focus on detective work & deduction.

I really want to like this game but for all its charm it is overshadowed by frustration and poor design choices.

First the good: The art style and overall presentation is beautiful and the gameplay is novel. I really like the concept of using sneaky tricks to cheat your way through card games 18th Century France. The way the game accomplishes this is overall well done and feels like it requires some skill.

The problem is that some mechanics are very poorly explained, and then often there is no way to go back and re-learn the different mechanics once you've got through them. The game, it its defence, does give you frequent refreshers on some mechanics but seems to expect you to be playing through in one sitting. If you don't play for a week or so and come back then some essential elements may be forgotten with no way to re-learn them, or even provide suitable explanations.

On several occasions the game wanted me to do something but I had no idea what buttons or movements on the controller would accomplish it, and no instructions were provided. After the failing the same sequence 10 times over with no idea what I had to do I would give up.

It's still worth a look if the setting and premise appeal, but be warned that it can be irritating with these frustrations. I'd get it on sale if anything.

Superb and unique gaming experience, that manages to be genuinely funny with a stellar voice performance from writer Lee Williams. Only downside is that it doesn't have a huge amount of replay value, but it's absolutely worth it for the 15 hours it took me to get through

Short but sweet horror fairy-tale. Good shout for fans of games like Inside, Little Nightmares 1&2 and Limbo. Gets the atmosphere of grim fairly tales very well done, though has a couple of frustrating moments with 3D platforming and bosses, but nothing that ruins the whole experience. Sounds and visuals match the atmosphere perfectly.

Superb detective game, absolutely a niche product but if you think you might enjoy it then you probably will

Not generally a fan of rogue-likes but I am certainly a fan of Supergiant Games and the software they create! This game is wonderful, I've sunk over 80 hours in so far and keep coming back for more. Game of the Year 2020 as far as I'm concerned.
