It's time for me to give this game a positive review.

this is my honest, based-on-my-experience review with the game.
I played this game on a controller, just your basic run-off-the-mill xbox controller, and I have to say yes IT IS difficult
and it does have a large learning curve and many, many, moments where you just retry over and over and over again, I even had a moment where I'm just stuck on one stage in monte-carlo and I just can't continue the stage for the day so I have to take a break and try it again tomorrow.

I'll format this review in a... FAQ format, just to answer what the question that people may have regarding this.. infamously difficult rally game.

Should I play with assist?
During the first few hours, sure thing, if you're still afraid to let your car flick around and go a bit too fast, but definitely try to turn all assist off (except ABS, that's optional, I still play with it on 5). I turn it all off at my 10 hours mark of playing the game.

Why are the AI times in rally so ridiculously fast? and the AI car in rallycross, ran faster than mine?
I didn't notice too at first, but there's actually an upgrade system in this game. All cars that you purchase start with NO upgrade, and in this game, the upgrade system don't actually work in a way where you pay for the upgrades. But by driving it through events, as you complete an event with the car, the upgrade will progress from 0% to 100% and it'll eventually get installed. Stock cars will feel sluggish and slow, and you WILL lose events with them, but stick with it, and later you'll easily go past the opponents.. or at the very least compete in equal grounds.

I can't, too hard, is there some sort of way to turn down the difficulty?
I know, in the end, this game is not for everyone, those who are used to just play arcade racing games will surely have a hard-hard time adapting with this game. And the unfortunate part is, atleast in the career, there is no way to turn down the difficulty. Basically the difficulty in this game are separated into leagues (Open, Clubman, Professional, Elite, Masters), and you'll always start from open, there, the game may feel very easy. yet the difficulty will spike as you go past professional.

Thing is, the difficulty in this game will only increase, as when you get to be in the top 3 of your league, you will get promoted, and there is no way to get back down (I don't know if you can get demoted, maybe if you're in last place, but hey, who want to lose that bad?) and so sometime, if you get lucky to be in 3rd place, you'll get promoted to an even harder difficulty yet your driving ability are not yet prepared to tackle the opponents there.

how do people enjoy this.. hard, unforgiving, game
I started with accepting that in this racing game, it's unlike any other racing game where your goal is to be in 1st place everytime, here, if you chase for that perfection then you will get absolutely nowhere. It is a racing game where sometimes, hey, it's okay to lose, then your car gets upgraded, you became more experienced, know the track better and you'll learn by time and finally get that coveted 1st place position. It's a game about process. and as a perfectionist it pains me to know that I can't just win every time by buying upgrades or adjusting difficulties, but that's the reality in DiRT Rally. Once you get to accept that, you'll enjoy it more!

You can't purchase this game anymore unfortunately so I don't know why I even bother to write this long review, but to anyone who have this game on their backlog and are curious but are afraid to step in, I hope this review can help!

Don't cut, everyone.

Absolutely a must have if you like the base game, and definitely more so if you also like ww2.
Both the Pacific & Edelweiss DLC is the Chaotic RWR fun you love,
and it will offer you HOURS and HOURS of extra gameplay for a cheap price. Recommended.

Even from just a few hours playing, I know so well that this is completely an improvement from the original.
I was a big fan of the gameplay in the first one, But I didn't like the classic 2d graphics, it felt too old.
This one revamped the gameplay mechanics and the graphics all at once, you can encircle enemy, do a mass attack and much more.
this. game. is. amazing.

Honestly, I must acknowledge the bad optimization of this game even now (It is lighter than when it is released tho).
and the f***ing dlc monetization that the publisher use.
But for me I absolutely enjoy this game, the open world may seem empty, but when you got into the mission area the massive battle is so immersive.
It is what I imagined that the battle in the past look like,
archer arrow raining down on the horde of soldiers fighting for their own faction and lords,
siege weapon rolling up to break down and make a way into the assaulted castle. It is a fantastic experience for me
and using a custom setting (all max except shadow and fog distance). I am able to maintain 50-60 fps.

So pros :
- Immersive massive battle
- Long replayable content (25 hrs per character average, there are 94 character)
- The best graphics so far in the dynasty warriors series
- Really good character design and a good Japanese & Chinese dub
- I like the simple but the chaotic combo system, It's epic

Cons :
- Performance is horrendous
- Cringe-worthy english dub (don't use it, please. there are english sub, so use the other dub)
- Walking the far distance, indeed the open world can feel empty

but it is still on the recommended side, I feel like people should give this game more chance.
just absolutely don't play this on the minimum recommended spec, It's a lie

8/10 for me, a really enjoyable, different, experience.

I am having an absolutely fun time playing this game.
For free definitely this is a must have. and If you love it (there are tons of content for free) you can buy the Forsaken & Shadowkeep expansion. I am definitely planning to do so!

Do keep in mind in this game you really need to know where you are going, what are you going to do first, because there'll be tons of quest thrown into your faces.
Watch some beginner guide on youtube too

Only problem I have with this game is the really bad anti aliasing solution, which use cheap fxaa / smaa as an option. And sometime the aliasing is very visible it's distracting even on the highest settings, But it runs pretty well on GTX 1660 Ti.
And well, the thing that I said before, the quests can be very confusing

But it's a solid 8/10
