Nearly 400 hours in and I am still being amazed by the atmosphere and how this game nails the grimdark feel of Warhammer 40K for the grunts that are boots on the ground. The gunplay and the melee combat are fun with the new class talents allowing for creative builds that may or may not be on-meta (but remain fun throughout).

The game remembers to be fun, first and foremost. From there it heaps on incredible sound design where your guns sound awesome whether its the buzzing crunch of a Lasgun or the thumping chug of a Gorgonum stubber, the gun sounds just work. The voice acting is also top tier and the interactions between characters provide some truly hilarious moments in the middle of intense and hectic combat.

It's not perfect and you can find complaints in the premium cosmetic store or the lack of player-led crafting but the developers have shown that since the release, they are committed to adding to the game.

Firewatch was the right game for me at the right time. Calming and enrapturing, I found myself emotionally invested in the premise and the characters. The vistas were great, the dialogue flowed naturally (almost so natural, it struck a nerve). Without delving into spoilers, the game may be short but it's enjoyable and the experience will linger - a reminder that sometimes we are just running away from problems to run into more of them and in the process, making connections that are all too fleeting but in the moment, all too important.

Thank you Firewatch, you've given a old dog the chance to reevaluate a similar situation years ago.

At least you'll die in spectacular and gorgeous fashion. Fun, exciting and heartbreaking in its unforgiving nature.

After over 3,000 hours. I can safely say I like this game.

Edit: Another year has passed and another 1000+ hours have been pured into this game. Thank you to Bethesda for creating a base game that is enjoyable in its own right but with the power of mods becomes a sandbox where I can add Mass Effect style dialogue, Star Wars powers and weapons, and turn people into cheeses. Despite not being an online game, this is a community game where the modders and players all come together to add to each other's experience without ever setting foot in each other's game. With all the madness surrounding the gaming industry with loot boxes, Pay2Win models, paid mods, etc, Oldrim helps me remember a simpler time and the wide variety of mods available help make Skyrim a game that I can shape to my experience. Thank you to everyone who has helped make this possible.

Edit: Another 3,000 hours since and I still find myself coming back. Thank you, old friend.

Now that the dust has settled and I have regained my senses, I tell you - GET THIS.

Bioshock Infinite continues in the tradition of pushing storytelling in video games to brand new heights. As a shooter, its a solid single player romp with superb voice acting that breathes life into every character, whether they are a hero or a villain or somewhere inbetween. Bioshock Infinite is also a beauty to look at (even with low settings) so those of you shallow folks can rest easy. But the true value of this game and why it will stand the test of time is the story. An expertly crafted story that will grab you by the throat and not let go; through its use of numerous themes that are highly relevant today (racism, religious fanaticism, guilt) and genuinely like-able characters, Bioshock Infinite portrays a gripping narrative that can overwhelming and exhilarating. Its not a game, its an experience.
