despite the game just recently having one of it's biggest updates, introducing a large DLC, and completely overhauling tons of political actions to make the game more interesting and varied, it has come at the cost of the game having some of the worst crash issues since launch, which is obviously not a good look when you just released your biggest update yet.

i can't run the game in it's current state. i have tried everything from just running in windowed mode or without vsync all the way up to uninstalling and reinstalling the game so that it can recompile the shaders. none of it has worked. the game will launch, let me select a scenario and choose a nation, and then crash after about 15 minutes.

i can't tell you if this game is good or not, but i can tell you it doesn't work.

it feels like im either steamrolling or getting steamrolled, that i'm either going against absolutely braindead players or that im paired with a bunch of braindead players

the best way to describe it is that it feels like the game is VERY DESPERATELY trying to make sure my win/loss ratio balances out to exactly 1 instead of providing me with a fun and enjoyable experience, and that's not to mention the terrible community, terrible devs, terrible balancing, terrible meta, terrible microtransactions and battle pass system, etc.

i can't even wholeheartedly say it sucks because i know that it could be better, because there was once a period in this game's history where it was just straight up better and more balanced. i remember hearing that overwatch balance was like a house of cards and that house was toppled by competitive players years ago, and it definitely feels that way, since i remember back on my PS4 console edition of this game in ~2017, i could pick up any character and still get kills, contribute to the match, and not feel like i was arbitrarily pitted against better/worse players because my winrate was just 0.001% off of exactly 50%.

the fact that this was once a well-balanced beloved game that you could pick up for 40 dollars is probably the only reason most people play these days, hoping that it will one day just go back to what it used to be. that or grinding for that sweet sweet battle pass and checking out the new d.va skin so that it can be datamined for r34. a lot of negative reviews say "its not free it costs your soul" and for me i get the feeling, but this is less of a "spend thousands of hours having fun playing the game, learning it and mastering it to such an extent that even after its hayday you will still want to come back" kind of soul, a la tf2, and more of a "desperately and frustratingly grind out for new skins every season and give us money while we trample on the balance of your game and ask for your money over and over again, knowing you'll say yes thanks to the sunk cost fallacy" kind of soul.

don't invest in this game. not with time or money.
