Rarely do I give games a bad review, so when it happens, you know I was disappointed. I want to say before I continue I did not play all routes in this game. Normally, I like to finish games before I review them, unless I just enjoy them so much I go ahead anyway. I just can't see me finishing this one.

What's Good:
-The art style.
-The fact your choices actually do make quite a bit of difference in where the story leads, which is something I think a lot of visual novels are losing sight of these days.
-Controls are perfectly fine for this sort of game.

What's Okay:
-While the art style is good, the art itself is very repetitive. You basically have 8 backgrounds, mostly static character art, odd mouth movement, and eyes that move around. It's basic.

What's Bad:
-The characters are so flat, the sociopathic step sister Sophia has the most personality out of all the characters.
-Speaking of, if you're hoping for romance, the men are exactly like cardboard. Their personality and character art are perfectly stiff and plain.
-They repeat the same dialogue over and over and over and over, because apparently you cannot understand the point of a sentence the first time.
-You have to actively accept being abused by your step family who stole your home from your family, turned you into a servant, and treat you like caca on a daily basis to get some "happy endings." The hell?
-When I bought this, I was expecting an adult version of Cinderella; a fairy tale. The story seems mostly about "Do I get revenge? Should I do this, this, or this in the next phase of my life if I do or don't get revenge?" There's fairy tale elements here but that is certainly not the focal point of the story. In fact, when you use magical routes, you're punished for it later. The weird thing is, fairy tales of old were about moral decisions and life lessons. Even still this just feels more like a crappy coming of age story in medieval times than anything else.

There are free visual novels out there with more entertainment value.

I had a wall of text review before, but since I'm updating for the Steam awards achievement and that review was almost 4 years ago, just know I'm still playing it on occasion! Not many games have me going back for 2, 3, 4, 5 play throughs and then some. Also, it does deserve the labor of love award. Every now and then the developer returns and drops a bomb of content. I believe he's finished with that now, but there is hundreds of hours of game play here.

And it's year 2, and I'm editing again, lol. Good luck Stardew!

Such a feel good experience, truly.

I was not expecting how much I would like this game. A friend gifted it to me on a whim, and when I viewed the store page it was an "Eh, okay why not." sort of reaction. Truly though this is the most modern of classic arcade style games I've played in a long time. Everytime I find an activated relic it's an "Ooooooo what does this do?!" moment, because it has everything from Mario to Candy Crush. Lots of screaming and "HOW DID I DIE?!" is to be expected with friends. The store page does not do it justice, but I did revisit it to buy the DLC!~*

Also, they are still in the process of bringing even more content, including a story mode. 9/10 recommend.

Let me start by saying I almost want to give this game a negative review, but I did truly enjoy it. It's a good casual weekend play through sort of game.

On with it then:
Beautiful art work, obviously. However the train scenes, on the rails, irks me to no end, and it's a big part of the beginning and near end of the story. You basically have two static pieces of art running along each other. There's a couple other instances of this, but none nearly as noticeable. Otherwise the art is fluid and gorgeous.
Immersion wise, it's great. You never really feel like you're fluxuating between times, it all blends together beautifully like you're playing out a movie; it's beyond a visual novel. That's really what it should have been though: A movie.
Controls are clunky. While again the art and animation is gorgeous, this is the complete opposite. A good portion of the game is magical parkour. I'm not sure if the artwork is part of -why- this was so bad, but the game will at least move you to proper placement itself half the time... Even if making the jump looks bloody obvious. It's just a frustrating aspect of the game that you're going to deal with a plenty. It could have been more fine tuned.
Gameplay is about as lackluster as controls. At first it seems like you will be doing quite a bit of detective work and exploration, but that cuts out pretty quickly after the first hour and gets hand-holdy. The puzzles are simple, repetitive, and boring. I received an achievement for 1,000 stairs climbed within the first hour. You just do a lot of running back and forth, and I think a good portion of it is designed to waste time. Again the artwork is a bit problematic in this regard as well, because in a different style, interactive backgrounds you walk behind are more obvious. Some might find that as a plus, I did not.
Storyline, being the biggest basis of this game, is nice. It's sort of like... light novel version of "V for Vendetta" meets Ghibli. The characters have personality. My one complaint is, for a game about choice, your choices do not always make a big difference. A lot of it is dialogue changes, which actually causes personality clashing with the protag, but you seem to always be lead in the same direction anyway. There's a couple of big exceptions to this, but for the most part, no. The story itself is fun though, and why I'm going to give it a thumbs up.

In total:
It should have been a movie.
Artwork is wonderful.
Story is nice.
Everything else sucks.
Play this only if you like visual novels.
Mostly failed as a platformer.

This Tomb Raider DEFINITLY has more of a combat focus than the older ones. Less tomb exploration and more pew pew. Which, I like exploration quite a bit, but my husband is more into shooting, so it works for some. 2016 one feels like it has more exploration and resource gathering by far however if you're weighting between the two, and I haven't even gotten more than 10% into '16. As for the combat, well it has a lot of options, but you'll probably find a playstyle and not use very many. I was hooked on the bow and stealth kills when I could. Again '16 looks like it'll have much more diversity, but if you're a Tomb Raider fan, or new to the series, this is a must. It's a great starter and continuation.

The story line was fun, a damsel saves a damsel in distress! Old world Japanese mountainside villages, legends, mixed with some WWII German military relics/bases, and modern day cultists. Graphics were lovely, only her pony tail and the odd askew eyeball here and there were off.

If I could change one thing... It would be giving Lara her sass back a bit. Her character remake for both of the newer games is definitly more realistic, but I miss her rose sunglasses and short shorts; catchy one-liners. How realistic does a one woman archeologist army really need to be anyway?

My husband and I will be playing more of the 2016 game for sure, and we look forward to Shadow in September '18. Kick ass game.

Quick edit: Multiplayer is dead. So don't bother with it.

14 hours goofing around with this thing and I've only made it to day 32. 14 hours in and I still am not sure exactly what I am doing, except that it's really bloody addictive. This game has tons of replayability, for like, ever. I've been playing in PUGs 'cause Phacey's arse (friend's arse) is busy being a diva. I hope you see this. And it's even fun with them, so it has to be better with friends. I've only done Autumn solo and died so I couldn't say if it's really a solo game as some like to present, probably once you know wtf ur doing, but 3-6 players and only day 32 guys.

#WendyMain4Lyfe (might consider Wickerbottom if I ever know wth I am doing.)

Tim Burton-esque survival game. Wa-la.

This was fun.

One play through and I know I'll play through it again soon-ish because I am left with many unawnsered questions, that I assume other routes would give me. The storyline from what I've seen thus far, while maybe not the most original, it makes you think about not only your choices - where they have lead you or will do so - but some of them make you down right uncomfortable. I like uncomfortable. And sometimes the most uncomfortable choice feels like right ones to make, in my case.

On that note, after your first play through, you should take a gander at how many players have been left uncomfortable with certain gender questions in Steam discussions. It's hilarious.

It's a bit standard fare for visual novels I suppose, but if you like cyberpunk storylines you should play it.

A cute casual game where you get to pretend you're a cat. Consider it a "light" version of something like Stardew Valley, because it doesn't have a lot of depth, but the same principals in game play, such as limited exploration where you will forage for food, form relationships, mine, etc. Unfortunately it does get repetitive, and unless you're a die hard fan of these types of games, I don't see a lot of longevity. On the plus side, I really recommend playing this game without any sort of guide in the beginning. The fun part is figuring it out and the discoveries you make.

Just don't name your cat after your own, because I made that mistake and no good owner wants to picture their cat being abandoned at the beginning. :X

Gorgeous art accompanied by motion sickness. I totally played it 'till I felt I was going to vomit, because the game is fun! Just perhaps one day I'll purchase some Dramamine to continue. Do the same if boat motions make you queasy.

8/10 pill worthy.
