- Initial client load makes me wait an entire 10 seconds before I can play.
- I don't really like Rottweilers. But Chop is still pretty cool.

As someone who has put in 800+ hours in Civ V and god knows how much in IV and III, it sucks to admit that I'm pretty dissapointed with CIV:BE. Overall, it's a fun new experience, but doesn't compare to Alpha Centuri and its UI is begging for a patch out of the box.

Summary:

+Affinities are a great expansion to how your units and cities look like.
+Enhanced narrative through sidequests / city state colonies
+Social policies have been put into 4 trees and it works well!
+Harmony affinity / alien units are pretty rad!
+Terrain generation is really cool and has good variety.
+Spying has been improved so you can stage a Coup and snag an entire city if you're successful.

- [~personal] I'm not a fan of how units are perma upgraded now.
- [~personal] CIV:BE feels like it chose visuals over gameplay
- No natural wonder equivalents [ Gimme a badass Volcanoe that gives +8 science!]
- No religion of any kind [ Gimme cyber future religion!]
- UI could use a LOT of color differentiation [ In the Tech Tree I can't tell what's a building and what's a wonder].
- Affinities should function like ideology [Once you pick one you stick with it rather than juggle 3 of them].
- [~personal] Another thing that bogs this title down is the limited expressions and butchered fake voice acting for some leaders (Slavic Federation and Brasilia; Kozlov's voice is just some Berkeley hipster reading off Google Translate with a Russian accent / which is odd because Catharine's voice in V was 100% authentic. )

+/- Trade works the same way as in Civ V, and thats ok I guess.
+/- Diplomacy is exactly the same and thats ok too, I guess
+/- No Nukes / Mass Destruction
+/- No Space Mongolians / Space bandits

At the end of the day, while it does offer a brand new experience, an impressive terrain script and an expanded narrative in the form of quests, I cannot recommend this game in its current state at its current price until it's at least patched and some gameplay elements are significantly improved.

Wonderful mod for Half Life 2.
Single-player story centric, linear gameplay wth a good narrative and emphasis on atmosphere.
Very polished, good level design and flow.

My only complaint is that I have to wait for Act II.

My favorite indie game of all time.

Crafting and survival. You never have a dull moment and you're always under the knife in this game. It's a constant challenge and it's lovely.
