I pirated this game off {LINK FJERNET}

I finished it. It was one of the most profound experiences of my life

I felt like I committed a crime pirating a game this outstanding. So I bought it on here to support the devs, and played a few minutes so I could write this review.

This is a game about surrendering. In our lives, there are cosmic forces that can extinguish us at any moment, and our very existence is a mystery. We tell stories to make ourselves feel a little more safe, because in reality we have no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ clue what is going on. What the point of all of this is. This game is about surrendering to those cosmic forces, and letting our humble bodies and minds ride the torrential wave of life. Often I find myself having a physical reaction of fear, anxiety, and dread when I come up against the unknown in this game. My abs contract and I can barely look at the screen out of fear. It's not a horror game but there is genuine terror. But only because you don't know. You fear the unknown. But in its brilliance, the game makes the unknown known, so you have that "a-ha" moment over and over again, as the impossible becomes possible, and what you fear becomes the path forward. It's a game about surrendering to your curiosity, and trusting that no matter what happens, you'll always wake up safe. It's a game about feeling an emotion that we knew innately as young children but is tragically absent from modern, adult life: wonder.

Outer Wilds is a fine example of great art. Thanks for reading

Since the dawn of ever... I have had an itch. An itch for a combat system that I could feel, I mean really feel.

I looked everywhere. I tried Dying Light. I tried Mordhau. I even tried Drunken Wrestlers 2. They were fantastic in their own right. But something was wrong.

See, games like Dying Light and Mordhau have excellent ragdoll physics, melee combat, and gore, and yet something was missing. Every attack, every decapitation was only one well-timed click away. The same animations, flashing for a moment before disappearing and the enemy's head gone. The game was trying its best to make the player feel the combat, and it succeeded, at least for the first 20 hours or so, before giving diminishing returns. Deep inside I had yet to find the game I wanted to play since a child, the game where you set two little figures armed to the teeth head-to-head to brawl it out. A game where attacks weren't scripted, where fights unfolded organically. Where you could put all your momentum into one haymaker to blow an enemy's head off or send them flying over a table.

After finishing the story mode and spending dozens of hours in the practice arena --- THIS IS THAT GAME. Made by no more than 7 individuals, with one programmer, who have spent years creating the engine, the assets, the physics, the controls, and the story by themselves. If that doesn't garner the utmost respect and admiration for dedication to craft, I don't know what does.

P.S.
If you are still stuck on the store page, hesitant to buy because you only see drunk combat with little control over player movements -- I will leave this here as my rebuttal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKKGtYXOlZE

Katana Zero:

-2d plaforming hack n slash with plot, visuals, aesthetic heavily influenced by the Hotline Miami series
-Short campaign with plenty of little secrets and surprises here and there for some replayability
-Good mechanics, good difficulty curve, and non-verbal teaching
-Excellent use of dialogue boxes, great pixel art, smooth animations and memorable characters

This is a very dark game, especially if you pick the red dialogue options with the therapist . Psychological horror at its, albeit pixelated, finest. The story, like Hotline Miami, has plenty of trips, mindf*cks, ambiguity and unreliable narration to compliment the killing sprees. However it is the interactions with other key characters that really stuck in my mind for this game.

Worth the asking price, despite the short play time--a sale is a bargain.

Here is a world of chaos, and you must create order out of it.

One of the most fascinating games I have ever had the privilege of experiencing. And I mean experiencing because at a certain point, whether that be at 2 hours or 20, you stop playing rainworld and you start living in it, with all the ups and downs that follow.

I will admit that I carefully used some steam discussions, wiki articles and FAQs to make certain mechanics clearer and streamline the path. For example I had no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ clue how the gas eggs worked to attract the raindeer but it worked out.

TLDR: If you like superficial, easy games then don't buy it. But, if you seek that perfect line between dark frustration and wonder-like beauty... your family will be waiting for you on the other side :)

I think part of the reason this game resonates with so many is the stark contrast it brings to typical, overstimulating, uncreative colorfests of games that populate today's AAA market. The Forest doesn't force you through a claustrophobic linear storyline, nor does it drop you in a barren landscape full of quest markers, nor does it give you a 10 hour driven experience that leaves you with a moral to dream about one night, then forget when you wake up to brush your teeth the next morning. It is unpretentious and does not want your money. It is a beautifully crafted, genuinely terrifying, organic experience for just over ten dollars that will last you at least dozens of hours. The story is entirely optional and as one other review put it, Endnight Games could have removed the cannibals and caves, rebranded the game as a Hunting Simulator and it would STILL be the best game on the market by far.

I remember the first time I opened a save, I was younger and naive. I'd never played a scary game nor watched many scary movies. The prospect of delving into a forest and knowing nothing else besides the imminent threat of naked half-humans was on the horizon literally paralyzed me. I kid you not, I paced back and forth on the plane, not even wanting to leave the safety of that small cabin for 30 min. But I worked up the courage to step outside into the Forest, and I can tell you what I found there was just beyond anything I could have imagined, asked for, or dreamed of.

Maybe I'm overselling it slightly or exaggerating what for others would simply be an above-average survival horror title, but I firmly believe there is something truly special here. Whether its staring off into the sunset from a cliff-side bench, or ripping flesh from a dead cannibal's leg with your teeth in front of his friends while you look into their beady subhuman eyes, or hauling ass through the trees as inhuman shrieks get impaled and strung up behind you... no other game comes close to the atmosphere and surrealness of the Forest's reality. All without a single spoken word.

If you had the luck of stumbling upon this quiet gem in the first place, do yourself a favor and 1) avoid any guides, spoilers or videos on the story and 2) give it a try. You might be surprised at what you find.

After I go through the phase of a buying on sale/refunding spree, hoping to stumble upon a gem I can sink dozens of hours into, I always find myself coming back to this. Solid arena combat, with great controls, a decent progression system and skill ceiling that is above average for this style of game--especially free. Just a solid investment of time all around, and no loss if you're not into it after the first couple hours.

Highly recommended.

If you're like me and mountain biking/cycling in general puts you in the zone, of both tranquility and relaxation, a stillness in movement, then this game is for you.

Riding with the hud off, in endless hills, forests, canyons or mountains while you listen to chill music, is just as worth the experience as grinding the campaign mode to the game's drum and bass soundtrack or oldschool rock.

It's simple and yet conveys that feeling of bliss/attention so well. A must buy for similar experiences to mine.

The live, real-time nature of absolutely everything is astounding and fantastic fun. I've always enjoyed games that kind of "play on their own" through a Michael Bay-infused rube goldberg machine of AI strings and this one really resonates with me. I'll outline a quick story that made for one of the most memorable runs in my short time of playing this game:

I need to access this hospital and toggle a couple of switches. Unfortunately for me, I'm the thief, rendering my presence in any sort of public building met with hostility. There are also three goons armed with various melee weapons capable of bringing my demise. I have an RPG, luckily found through a vendor, as well as a syringe that has an unknown effect. My final weapon of choice will be a banana that I plan on using either for health or for some sort of advantage to be gained in a 1v1 scenario. So, I head over to the side of the hospital to the air ventilator and drop in my syringe. The effect turns out to be strength, but regardless the gas seeps through the vents and the 10 or so bouncers and doctors flee outside the one entrance and amass in a large pool of bodies, waiting for the gas to end. I pause for a moment and then realize I have an RPG, and seeing an opportunity too juicy to pass up, fire at the clump of people. The rocket connects and I gib 6 of them, while the rest flee inside. I scamper in and annihilate three with a police baton with relative ease, but a goon with a pistol is moving in and out of rooms, attempting to search for me. I drop my banana right outside the door of the room he's in and lo and behold, he sidesteps the banana with ease and opens fire. Having the strength bonus I gave before, his shots take me down from 40 or so health to exactly 5, just enough time for me to stab him to death. I flip the switches, congratulate myself, and then proceed to slip on my own banana peel while staring at my inventory, trip, take 5 damage, and die.

Moral of the story? Buy this game. Even if you manage to kill yourself with a banana peel.

I hate it. I love it. It's simultaneously one of the best and most infuriating games I've ever played.

Half an hour with about a minute and a half at my top score, and I can't stop playing despite my hands shaking in unfathomable rage. My mind's in another realm, a pixelated Doom-esque heel with floating skulls and crystals at my heels.

The difficulty is cranked up to max, but each time I feel like I was the one at fault, that I didn't turn around, that I twitched my hand a centimeter too far. This results in a nailbiting run that's concise and action packed each time. Gameplay is the main attraction here: minimal story, characters, lore... and gameplay is what I'm about.

As for visual effects, particle effects are phenomenal. When each dagger hits the ground and kind of sparks off? Absolutely incredible. Especially for a pixelated resolution, everything from the ground to the enemies and the player's hand is polished, shined and then trimmed to perfection.

You have here, folks, very close to a perfect game. Very, very close. Go buy it.
