First off; hi Not a Sailor! This is Knight of Despair if you remember me from your stream of this game!

Now, I really do like this game. I like the themes, I like horror aspect, I like the AI desperately trying to be your friend through any means possible. I like the dark humor that gets sprinkled in every now and then.

...but I also think the game declines in quality as it goes on. To explain further I'll cut the game into three parts.

-SOILERS AHEAD-

1 - Text Only: Peak atmosphere. Everything here is so unsettling and it really grabbed me, although one thing I wish you had kept was the bit in the demo where all the hands grab you in the dark because that was the best horror bit in the game in my opinion. I've legit tried to recreate this whole section in AI Dungeon, I love it that much.

2 - Town Exploration: Not bad at all. Really creepy setpieces that do a good job of keeping you unnerved throughout, despite the silly characters. Good characters, mind you, they're all interesting. However, the jumpscare bits and weird imagery that amounts to nothing somewhat killed the mood.

3 - RPG: It's not that it's bad, I don't mind the battles and the usage of the characters was a neat idea. My problem with this section is that outside of a very few number of times, the game loses all of its tension and seemingly forgets that it's a horror game? The uncomfortable bits that the first two sections presented to you without warning you now have to go out of your way to find. The only thing that got me was the glitched Mayor. The part with the bone hallway was really well done though.

3.5 - Ending: (For context, I got the neutral ending.) After the last boss is taken care of, the game gets much better again. Really uncomfortable glitches, and an ending that genuinely made me sad for this AI I had grown to really like. I had to get up and take a walk outside after realizing this friend was now gone. I could wake them up, but they won't remember me any. That got me so much worse than I anticipated and I applaud you for making that work out.

Overall I do like this game, but if you revisit this concept or AI again, please use the first two sections as a base. Do that and you have a fantastic horror game on your hands.

I walked into a large, empty house. After taking out the one zombie and patching myself up, there was a mannequin just in my field of vision. Okay, cool, whatever. So I'm exploring the rest of the house and gathering what I can but oddly the mannequin was..following me? That's when I noticed there's not one, not two, but seven of these things only moving when I'm not looking at them. I make my way to the exit and close the doors behind me. I thought that was it, so I crossed the street to the two other houses. I f***ing screamed when I turned around and all seven were at the entrance to the house I was looting, and blocked the only way in or out. I quickly made a molotov and threw it at the densest part of the mannequins, but that messed up my sanity. So there I am, insane, with with around four mannequins still staring at me, in a burning house I had no hope of escaping. I ended up burning to death and lost all my exp.

10/10, ASCII art jumpscared me and I'm not even mad.

I...find it really hard to talk about this game. I knew what I was getting into, but having dealing with Depression and Anxiety myself, some of the things in this game genuinely made me stop cause I was in tears.
