I was bored out of my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mind
But I do find it deeply funny that the game gets introduced to you the same way a porn game did it 4 years ago. The exact same game mechanic.

I'm really lucky, the game never once stuttered during my playthrough. I know there's a bunch of players who have a ton of stutters still. I'm fortunate my game was butter smooth the whole way through.

TL;DR, I rate this game a weak 7/10. Would recommend a big discount, or an EA Play subscription

So, to get to the point. Story is good, not great, very bland, but enjoyable for a game like this.
I really liked the twist at the end! Let's just say, I saw it coming, but I did not see THAT coming.
I'm a bit biased, I'm not a fan of Order 66 surviving stories. We've seen a ton of them pop up lately, and it honestly just makes the Empire seem even more incompetent.
Plus stories like this can end in two different ways, either our hero dies before the events of A New Hope, or they become insignificant. Either these, or you're willing to mess with established Lore.

Combat is insanely hit or miss. It's janky as hell. You can tell the guys at Respawn still don't fully grasp how combat works in this genre. Hits sometimes feel clunky, enemy animations break inconsistently on hits, staggering is not reliable, dodging doesn't always protect you from damage and enemies can often stunlock you.
Bosses (not including bounty hunters) are easier than regular enemies, because they telegraph their attacks better. I only had to try the very last boss battle twice.
The biggest problem I have with regular enemies is their numbers. This game doesn't have a "sekiro" combat mechanic, where only one or two enemies engage you at a time. All enemies have the chance to go for you at once, and if you misread their intent, you can get stunlocked.
A 6/10 for me

Platforming is fun. There are times when you run into "platforming for the sake of platforming". Those sections are really "meh", but the rest is pretty great. Weird, because it feels really tight, but if you let yourself do a platforming section a couple of times, you realize how much leeway the game gives you.
I only found two issues in my playthrough, one, Cal sometimes doesn't grab onto stuff. And two, in some rare platforming puzzles, you can have multiple grappling options. And sometimes, the game switches targets last second, making you miss the next platform.
Overall, 9/10 platforming. Minor annoyances.

The holotable minigame just straight up sucks ass.
I think I've been conditioned to dislike skins, so I didn't really interact with that whole system.
The Cantina is a really nice idea, but for me, it took a long ass time to load the inside of it (doors wouldn't open), so I just ended up not going in there for most of my playthrough.

I have a ton of little annoyances with this game, stuff that we've figured out in 6th and 7th gen that's just done worse here.
And not to mention, I played on keyboard and mouse (yup, controller was broken). Still very enjoyable, BUT WHO THE HELL THOUGHT PUTTING DODGE ON TAB WAS A GOOD IDEA.

Anyways, I don't think the games is worth it full price, you should wait for a discount. The game is not "great" imo. Just good.
Or get EA Play. If you can finish it in two-three months (or less), I think it's worth it!

Been waiting to buy this game with a few friends, ever since they announced coop.
I finally had a group who wanted to buy it, so I hopped in.
To sum up the game in one word: "Disappointing"

I'll go into detail. I'm starting with the Multiplayer aspect, since that's why I bought the game.
It's pointless. I thought there would be some additional challenge that comes with multiplayer, but.. no. You just play the single player mode, but with friends. All the multiplayer does, is allowing us to progress 5x faster. That's it.
We can't even manage the Dynasty together, only one person can access the management options at a time.
So that's the multiplayer. Just. A big nothing burger. Disappointing.

So then I'll move on to the second aspect of the game, the Dynasty management. Which is also disappointing. Your townsman just go to their work places, play an animation and.. whatever they work on, just suddenly appears. The hunter is sitting on his chair, all day, yet he just magically gets the food.
And that's really my problem. The town doesn't feel alive, at all. I expected some basic stuff from other city management games, like, I dunno, people hauling resources? But I guess that's too demanding.

And then there's the world. It has animals. That's it. I'm bringing this up because "Dynamic Environmental Realism" and "Interactive environment" are key selling points. But it's just animals. There's animals in this game guys.
Occasionally you can run into bandits, but in the current version of the game, they just stand there. They don't even die.
I guess the trees grow back. But that's literally the only resource that grows back. All other resources I've found just get "depleted", and they stay as they are.

The game does feature a ton of building materials, so that's at least correct, and I appreciate that. But I would gladly trade 2/3 of the building variety for some NPC variety.

Do I regret buying this game? Yeah...
I'll make the most of it, probably finish a single player playthrough, but it really feels like once you got a village started, you've seen all the game has to offer.
6/10

It's a good game, but it will fall off. The game is in need of an end goal. Or just something to strive for, other than capturing more pals.
Right now, you capture pals to make better stuff to capture pals with, to capture event more pals that make even better stuff to capture pals with, to capture even better pals..
It will become stale. The only reason it hasn't become stale yet is because there's a loooooooot of pals to capture. But it will become stale.

Good news is, judging by the roadmap, we will get some content that will make you want to engage with some of the unique mechanics of the game, and actually make the most of what the game has to offer.

But to point out two more problems, the Pal AI is absolute bonkers, and the servers are laggy as ♥♥♥♥. The devs are on it, and unless Nintendo does a Nintendo, I think they will hopefully address these issues soon.

Now, if you excuse me, I've got like, 40 more unique pals to capture still.

Boy I might get hate for this.
LD;DR: It's just a shooter. A really hardcore shooter. But *just* a shooter.

I only played two dozen missions, maybe three. I have three gripes with the game

1. Performance
Even if I do want to roleplay and get into it, I'm constantly sucked out of it by the game running like ass. Specially for a 1.0 release, this is just ♥♥♥♥. I don't expect the game to run flawlessly, I only expect it to not impact gameplay, yet it does. Constantly.
And ♥♥♥♥ me, it's not even a GPU bottleneck. Despite how unoptimal the lighting setup in this game is, switching to low barely improves performance. Guys, CPU bottlenecks are most often on you, so what on earth did you do behind the 1.0 build?

2. Bugs
It's a 1.0 release. You had a year of Early Access, what the hell happened. ♥♥♥♥ it, it's not just this game, I don't want any game release as a buggy mess. But this is ridiculous. I watched a Stanag mag come out of my teammate's ass as we were walking, headgears just float above people's heads, we open a door, close it, the sun is still shining through and it's painfully bright, I spawn in without arms, we host a private lobby and it's open, but ♥♥♥♥ it who cares, we can't even join.
AI aims at us in one frame, dead body ragdolls shoot up in the sky, sometimes you can't even see dead bodies until you walk up really close. Oh and I can't even tell my teammates because I literally cannot hear them ingame, everything's setup correctly, no voice audio is coming through.
I feel like I should emphasise this: We only played two missions. TWO.

3. It's just a shooter
Right, story time!
When the game came out last year, me and a friend of mine had an argument. I told him that this is just a shooter, you can literally play it like CoD. He said that's dumb.
Anyways, we played a round on the skyscraper map (I think, it was a year ago), I was the last man standing. I said watch this: And I cleared the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ building alone. Because it's just a shooter. Good reaction times simply payed off.
Did that change in 1.0?
...kinda
The AI now reacts to you much faster. I appreciate that? It's now harder than ever to play the game like CoD for sure.. but you still can? And I noticed that while my friends were trying to play it tactically, I just whipped at the gunner's head and shot. Like.. that's it. I find that playing tactically is still not required, it really, really feels optional. And not just that, if you can't aim well it's still kinda game over, you have a limited amount of tactical gear to give yourself an edge anyways.
And besides, why on earth would I actively try to play super tactically? From what I saw, I only unlock skins. I'm sorry, but the last decade of AAA games really conditioned me to give a grand total of 0 ♥♥♥♥♥ about skins, so what's there for me in this?

And at this point it looks like this game isn't made for me, and I just made a bad purchase and this whole rant is pointless. But is it really?
I was sold on an immersive SWAT (or SWAT like) game, that's not your average shooter. The early access release kinda was just an average shooter. Now the 1.0 release is still kind of an average shooter. But more hardcore.
For real, I could just open any shooter with bots, I'll pick CS2 cuz it's easy to setup, put a bunch of bots in Office, set their difficulty to some insane godlike level and that's basically it, **in terms of difficulty**.

..I guess I'm just butthurt over how much I spent on something that ultimately just disappoints. There's so many great games out there, and 50$ for this technical mess is such a high ask.

The game is suffering from the exact same issue as Space Engineers, there's f@ckall to do.
Even after looking at the roadmap, there's nothing coming. The game is banking on people wanting to PvP, but what on earth is the point of PvP. It has this Rust gameplay loop, you gather resources, you build your base, you defend your base, eventually you loose your base, repeat.
But here's the thing, it works in rust because it's quick, you get this "loop" in a day or two, in Starbase, you get it in a few weeks or even months. And that assumes people want to throw their ship away in PvP, but it takes so much time to make quality ships, even if I made a Star Destroyer, I would hide it for the "right time" like a health potion in an RPG (and probably never use it).

The devs just need to focus on PvE content. You take a look at the roadmap and it's all kinda sad, big capital ships are coming and you can have gunfight in them, I mean it sounds great, but it just won't ducking happen when nobody's there to actually do all these things. The devs just seemingly assumed that at some point, the game will boom with thousands of players and all this content will come together and everyone's gonna have a great time, but they can barely keep their active playerbase interested in the game. Add in a few AI pirate ships, and quests with rewards, no need for RPG elements, getting ship parts as rewards is more than enough, hell, hold events, big ass ships attacking the Origin stations, a weird alien station appeared and you can explore it or what not. There's just seriously nothing to do right now.

With that being said, I'm giving it a positive review, because it's still a better game than Space Engineers.
