Fallout 4 is my favourite game of all time, but... its kind of mid without mods. My extensive hours in this game are all thanks to the incredible modding community for this game, if it wasn't for the vast amount of mods for this game via the nexus website, I would not play this game as much as I have.

The base game has a decent story but with pretty meh characters, the companions however are the shining jewels of the entire games cast. Each and every companion has a well written and enjoyable story that is worth playing every single one over the games main story, my favourite companion is Nick but he probably has the smallest story out of the companions available and yet its one of my favourites.

If you really want to enjoy this game, I would recommend immersing yourself in the games modding community and transforming Fallout 4 into your own Fallout game with the hundreds of thousands of mods available for the game, whether you want the game to become a tactical shooter or a giant not so safe for work mod overhaul, its your choice how you shape the game and that is what has kept me playing it for 9 years now. (I also have like 8900 hours on an alt account but we don't talk about that)
