I vividly remember playing FF7 nearly three decades ago. This game has the exact feel as the old one, which is amazing considering how modern its sensibilities are. It's still choking to death on its own minigames, it's a (mostly) open world where you can just wander around and get really good at squishing Cactuars, and the thin veneer of an ATB system really gives you that flourish that makes it feel like you're playing a Turn Based RPG, even though you're rolling around the battlefield dodging attacks like it was an Adventure RPG. The script is top notch, the voice acting doesn't sag anywhere, and it really is just pretty to look at. Honestly, it's fun seeing these characters break out of the limitations imposed on them in 1997 to be fully fleshed out people. And not like, in the weird anime way that Advent Children and the other prequels handled themselves. I'm not sure if that's a localization issue or a scriptwriting issue, but either way, the dialogue felt natural as a native English speaker.

My only complaints are that the game tends to lightly stutter during particularly taxing graphics moments, and one time in 100 hours, the game crashed for no reason. That's it. An excellent game, an excellent port, and sometime I'm going to continue playing in New Game+.
