Darksiders was an enjoyable playthrough from beginning to end. The story was meager - although somewhat interesting, and there were audio balance issues - mainly, the cutscenes were very quiet in comparison to the in-game audio. My only other complaint is that the aiming system is very cumbersome. The camera controls are very static, and I felt like there was an unnecessary learning curve in order to shoot targets (which is a pretty important part of the game).

I can't speak for the original Darksiders but the Warmastered Edition plays very smoothly on max settings on my mediocre stock PC. I crashed a couple times throughout my 16 hour adventure (I'm still missing 10 achievements) but the game auto saves so often that it wasn't an issue so much as a nuisance, and the root of the issue could have been related to my computer itself and not the game.

Lots of the puzzles were repetitive and had me going back and forth through the same areas over and over, but I didn't mind as I felt there was a progression curve as I went about my business in game. The puzzles themselves were challenging and interesting; arguably the most difficult part of the game. All the bosses presented somewhat of a challenge, but they were very easy to defeat once you figured out the pattern.

If you're looking for a solid hack n slash game filled to the brim with puzzles, and not so much of a focus on story and rage-quit combat mechanics, I recommend you play through this entire series.

TLDR:

Pros:
- interesting and challenging puzzles (think PUZZLE game with hack n slash combat)
- simple but effective hack n slash combat system
- rewarded by efforts (finding all the secret items, upgrades, etc.)

Cons:
- an interesting but poorly executed story (not very engaging, choppy cutscenes)
- audio issues (cutscenes are at least 100% more quiet than free roam
- poor aiming system (that can be mastered with patience)

MY RATING: 7/10
