War of the Chosen turns a solid game into a tactical classic, packed to the brim with depth and interesting decisions to make. This is the best Firaxis game since Alpha Centauri and its respective expansion, without exception. Trust me: this is worth the cost of entry, if not more.

Combine this and Enemy Within with the Long War mod, and you have one of the richest, deepest strategy games out there.

Intuitive, smooth, delightful, nostalgic for an era before mine.

Intensely visceral, almost primal. Stomping your foot as hard as you can onto the floor in time with the music is encouraged.

Eschewing an emphasis on traditional RPG mechanics to tell an interesting set of stories about an interesting set of characters, LiEat lives and dies on the quality of its narrative, its dialogue, its characterization, etc. Fortunately, it succeeds at doing all of these things well, creating a unique experience that's thoroughly engaging. It sticks in the back of your mind months, possibly even years, after finishing it; its unique world and unique characters are unforgettable.

Exactly as compelling as the previous game. Given that I played the first entry for three days straight via a fan translation, laying in bed playing to the exclusion of everything else, that says a lot.

A bit clunky, has some bugs, and can ramble on, but packed with memorable characters, Set in a fleshed-out world, and executed in an engaging way with a great sense of humor.

It's also one of the best arguments for diversity in games, because that element actually adds to the characters and makes the world feel almost more real.

has no right to be as good as it is. it's like a fairly stressful real-time management sim with cookie clicker's DNA. not a ton of depth, but still really, really fun.

It's polarizing, and the learning curve is steep. Go into this with that knowledge and you may end up like me, never wanting to go back to any other controller.
