Is the game fun? Yes. The review could stop right there.

It runs great, the balance for weapons is great, the enemies are fun to fight, and it is enjoyable.

There is some grind in the leveling and challenges, but that's to be expected. Rhe content isn't as full as other games, but its also $40 compared to $70 and remember that 95% of PD2's content was DLC so it isn't a fair comparison.

Yes, it had server issues at the start, but the underlying gameplay is amazing. Everyone complaining that it was missing things from PD2 doesn't realize how difficult it is to pull things over to a different engine from a 20 year old driving engine and having a publisher like Deep Silver suck the life out of your development studio.

I guarantee that this game will get the love and respect that PD2 received, and the content will come with it. Don't forget that PD2 had 9 heists at launch if you don't count multiple uses of the same map, and just a slightly bigger roster of weapons and masks. It will be there, give it some time. It isn't a massive AAA studio with billions of dollars behind it, so don't expect it to be some massive overstuffed project at launch.

Crashes more than my alcoholic stepfather

Edit: Crashes less but is buggier than a roach motel and infested with more cheaters than a planned parenthood

Avoid for a month and see how it is after.

You can not bring in weapons you've built or found without the very high chance the game will just crash and cause you to lose your entire inventory. This is game breaking and causes rounds where my team needs to dedicate getting the rest of us gear when we are just going to crash another 2 matches later and start the cycle over again. Needs fixing IMMEDIATELY.

THIS GAME IS NOT AN ARKHAM GAME! WB Montreal made their own identity for this game and it shows in a good way. If you're coming to complain that its not Arkham, do not play it unless you're going to have an open mind. This is a very fun game. Everyone that says it "Needs to be Arkham" and "It's not good because its not Arkham" is overreacting. However, for launch, the game is not the most stable, especially coop. It does make up for the crashes and disconnects with a surprisingly fast load time. Custom settings are amazing and give plenty of options for how you want the game to look and feel. Combat is good, has some issues when it comes to the dodge icons being very thin and hard to see in a particle rich environment, but its also fair and balanced well for solo and coop. The crafting is what everyone is worried about, but do not. It is very easy to get new items and gear, grinding isn't required at all. Avengers made you feel underpowered at all times, Gotham Knights keeps the playing field level with gear score in your favor where damage output and defense is concerned, but balances it with quantity of enemies.

The game suffers with performance, but due to current AAA trends, this will be fixed rather quickly. Don't act like this is the only Batman game to have poor performance on launch. The fps drops and crashes mostly happen during traveling quickly, where as in combat it seems to find a smooth fps groove. My only other negative note is that controller buttons do not save when remapped. I have to constantly change them upon game restart.

TLDR:

Pros:
- Fun and engaging story
- Multiple crime cases with Batman's rogues gallery
- A minimally invasive gear system that doesn't really apply until endgame builds
- Coop makes the experience awesome with a friend

Cons:
- Performance and crashes
- Doesn't save button remaps for controllers

The game is still not technically up to par yet, but most of the issues stated above have been improved upon and the gameplay still feels great. Give it a shot if you are on the fence. Slow start but endgame is so much fun.
