I am probably one of the most hardcore players on this game. I have been playing for 10 years and I have around 25k hours count on my account so this is not a new player review.

With this being said I'm not going to lie and sell you the game as a perfect game.
I'm realistic it have a lot of issues, but most of these (if not all of them) are only relevant for a really long time veteran player, because we somehow demand more stuff and faster than the developers can deliver, so don't take that too seriously,
it's just a very passionate group of people that just want more and more. Arenanet management has been a huge problem for years mostly by choosing the wrong priorities. But things seems better now and the release here on Steam is proof of that.

For you if you are starting now, damn I envy you. You are blessed, you have YEARS of content ahead, there is legit so much stuff to do, FUN stuff and actually always relevant because veterans like me are everywhere around still enjoying the same stuff because its FUN.

I make guides and content to help people because me and many other people in the community actually love to help each other. The community is nice but you still can find some bad apples, like everywhere, it's not perfect so don't believe that.
The game offers a lot of things to do but sadly it fails on communicating these to the player and due to how immense the variety of stuff to do is, most players get lost or don't even have the chance to experiment the different options, so make sure to not underestimate the game by your very first experience.

This is mainly because the game have horizontal progression, you can do stuff when you want and how you want, so you have to set your own goals.
The game values your time and your freedom, you aren't being told or forced to do something. And while this sounds nice and It's actually very good in my opinion, some people just dislike this and they actually NEED that the game set the goals for them. So this is why in the end many people choose to follow my guides because I help them to sort the goals.

I like to compare it like a sandbox, especially that is why I enjoy the World vs World game mode in GW2, which is like a semi "open world pvp" mode, the freedom to do what you want and the unexpected things.

So my recommendation is:
Play it long enough to discover the different things, if you don't have patience for the start use a lvl 80 booster and just experience the huge variety of things to do in the endgame. You can always backtrack stuff or create alts.
You might find some modes and activities more interesting than others and you might want to stick to those, but you need to experience it yourself, and still if you need guidance make sure to check out all the awesome Guild Wars 2 content creators (like me :D) around who make guides, videos, streams, etc. Arenanet could do a better job supporting them though.
