umineko is a marvel in storytelling and its conclusion is as bitter as it's sweet. it fails to wrap around its point at times, mainly since only 2 episodes were given to properly do that (and they do so in a very roundabout way), but after some reflection the pieces manage to fall in place somehow. the topic of umineko's issues is one for a very long essay, however everything else this work represents would require an essay of countless times greater length. it's a work that upon finishing leaves you with many complicated feelings, and it's up to you to figure out what they are and what to do with them. and it deserves the title of a masterpiece simply for that - provoking a discussion about many topics connected and not limited to philosophy and doing so in the grandest way possible.

I haven't finished the game yet, but one is for certain. Umineko is a work that tries to be many things at once, combining many elements from different genres and constantly switching between points of view, narrative styles and even main focuses of the story itself. And somehow, despite being rather slow and convoluted at times, it excels at every single one of those things. At some point, it starts to feel as that slowness is a necessary byproduct of an immense ambition this work has. If you have enough patience and open mind to keep up with sometimes absurd directions that the story takes, it really will start shining later on.

this port is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ abomination and requires tons of mods just to MAYBE make it run ok. i was semi-happily playing this on pirated version until i wanted to download some modpacks from wabbajack but the bethesda soy cucks who made this software decided to prevent pirates from using it, hence i was forced to spend my money on a downgraded version of a game i already bought years ago. i would have happily donated to wabbajack devs instead of buying this joke of a game but i guess they'd rather have me give that money to a corporation that screwed them over countless times, oh well.

Omori is an incredibly beautiful and introspective experience.

The art is really distinct and smartly used in the convention of rpg maker type game. Beautiful hand-drawn illustrations appear in form of animated cutscenes, very cute character icons and in many more forms that may surprise you. The music is not that memorable for the most part, but it really fits in with the visual aesthetics and builds atmosphere very well. It is clear that the musicians involved worked closely with the main developer. There is a total of 179 tracks in many different genres so it is unlikely for the OST to get repetitive.

The story tends to move very slowly at times, but the overall atmosphere of the game greatly makes up for it and keeps you invested in the characters' adventures. The content warnings should not be taken lightly as it does get pretty intense, but I partly disagree with the popular opinion of the game being really depressing, though it is hard to talk about that without spoilers.

The characters are instantly likeable and are developed quite well, although I wish there was some more insight into them.

The battle system is really simplistic and obviously isn't the main focus of the game. There is only one original mechanic that I still didn't find myself using much and appears to be there mostly for the plot.

My main problem with this game is a relatively large amount of side content that is mostly quite boring and doesn't reward you in any way. As a player who often feels obliged and wants to check every corner and do every side quest I found myself skipping most of it throughout the second half of the game as it is largely disconnected from the deeply intriguing main story.

Omori is one of those games that break the boundaries of what can be expressed through the video game medium and its ending segment is probably one of the most emotionally intense moments I have ever witnesed while playing a video game. Such charming and artistically consistent production is something that could have been done only by an independent visionary and I deeply encourage you to buy this game for the full price.
