In short, Metaphor is a seriously ambitious game that manages to reach great highs in some regards while seriously stumbling in others. The worst part about Metaphor is its uneven plot which honestly has some seriously bad moments, especially in the second half of game. It sets such high standards at the beginning, yet certain later plot points feel so incredibly disappointing. It also comes with all of both good and bad parts of Persona series, especially P5. Characters are great and diverse, yet their personalities don't really go past their main shtick. They begin with an introduction of their unique background and end with bonding events that conclude their personal struggles, that's about it. The structure of a Persona game seemed to limit Metaphor's ability to truly realize its potential. The antagonists here aren't corrupt adults appearing as shadows representing their corrupted desires in an exaggerated way, but are serious political figures, yet they fail to present as such, appearing as pretty one dimensional bad guys. Despite all its shortcomings, Metaphor manages to defend itself with its overall great artistic delivery, and all of my criticism comes from a great desire to love this game. I would recommend it to anyone who can suspend their disbelief hard enough, or someone who simply does not care that much about the story. For anyone sceptical about this type of games, this likely won't be something that will convince you.

letting people play part of a game for free with no strings attached is appreciated and should be more common in games and this coming from atlus is especially unexpected. the game itself looks great, though the performance could be better.

the game's great and rgg studios are an amazing team of creative developers. however, it seems as if everything that's wrong with this game is because of its publisher - sega. scummy microtransactions, outrageous price localization, still bad pc optimalization without dlss and such, dubious english localization and denuvo drm. it almost hurts to pay such a high price for a product that does not respect you or your wallet. i am going to keep my review on not recommened until at least one of the above issues is resolved.
