I've been playing smite a long time, and I have been playing the new Smite 2 alpha patches here and there from very early on.

Purely from a gameplay perspective, this patch has really shocked me at how good it feels. Every patch before felt like "smite 1 but a little janky" so every time I pop back on I've been a bit of a doomer. This patch really does feel like smite but better, and they must have optimized the sh!t out of it because I'm actually getting my smite 1 fps now. I just wish they would fully integrate the in-world pings that exists in smite 1.

Personally I was never a big skin guy, you guys might have a right to be as mad as you are about whatever their doing, but if you actually enjoy smite 1 just go pick ullr in arena and tell me the (gameplay) devs didn't cook and give respect where ti's due in that regard. hoping they can appease the smite 1 whales somehow so they can keep the game in development.

even if the player count dwindles for whatever reason and it's mismanaged you HAVE to respect the people working on recreating smite 1 so accurately. It's definitely worth at least checking out.

also Gebs new little hop after his full charge 1 is awesome, though slightly unhinged. and the aspects they've added are genuinely cool. I'm not playing as much smite as I used to but it's awesome that this game exists for me to hop on every now and then.

If you're a fan of rogue-lite diving mixed with restaurant management games, this is the game for you. ==============================================Edit- I hit the early access content wall by 20h or so. and I didn't really clean out my quest log. that being said this game absolutely barrages you with events. a few times I didn't feel like doing anything besides swimmin around and doing my thing, and the game mostly allowed that. so it's not a negative, and it'll make the people who get bored without clear direction happy. so it's probably overall a win-win. i can't wait to play the full game, but the gameplay loop is so damn polished, they can really slot in repeat content and i'd be happy. but based on what I've played there's no shot they don't add 10 new mechanics in the end game. high hopes for this one. truly a 10/10 game that scratches ALL the itches, even ones you had no idea you had.

You didn't know you wanted a turn based fighting game, but you do.
