After three full seasons in GM-only mode for the Mets (three playoff appearances, one WS victory), OOTP fully and completely scratched the Football Manager-shaped hole in my library, delivering a similarly immersive experience with its own unique flavor. I felt more in control of my team as GM than in FM, while my AI manager and coaching staff made a combination of agreeable and confounding decisions based on my strategy. While it's not terribly beginner-friendly, there are plenty of good YouTube videos to help understand the basics and get started. Recommended!

Me, during Tactical Breach Wizards' ridiculous final battle: This is some BS! Eff this game forever. 🤬

Me, after beating Tactical Breach Wizards' ridiculous final battle: That was amazing! I love this game! 😍

The combat was fun and occasionally challenging, but the story and characters are what really made it so good. I want more!

PS: The mid-credit resolutions! ❤️

I’d heard of Grim Dawn for years, but I don’t think I’d have fully appreciated it without playing a few other ARPGs first. While I enjoyed Diablo III, Path of Exile, and Diablo IV, and Ghostlore was an interesting indie spin on the genre, WH40k: Inquisitor – Martyr became my overall favorite, partly for its mission-based structure that made it easy to jump into for short sessions any time. 50 hours into Grim Dawn, playing a WH40k-inspired Purifier, I officially have a new ARPG co-favorite! The story is classic dark fantasy ARPG — extremely familiar but with its own interesting nuances — but its pacing and mechanics, and an emphasis on rewarding obsessive exploration, lift it above Diablo and PoE for me. The fact that it’s completely offline without any live service nonsense is the icing on the cake.

Balatro for word nerds? A Scrabble roguelike? A damn good game on its own merits? All of the above!

The best CRPG I've played in a long time, and one of the best 40k stories I've ever read. (There's A LOT of reading!) Will be playing again when the next DLC drops.
