Early Access Review
Okay, so I've seen plenty of reviews for this game, and what I've noticed is people writing reviews after only 10 or so hours logged, so I'm going to give you the perspective of someone who has no-lifed this and played 75 hours in a week.
I LOVE THIS GAME... EVEN THOUGH IT CAN BE EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING.
This game has great atmosphere, and vision. As others have said, there's no feeling like the awe of jogging over a hill to see the ruins of what was once a town strewn across a valley. There's nothing like the fear of entering an abandoned military base, wondering if there are bandits lurking within. There's no thrill that tops finding another player, and seeing if he's friendly or not.
BUT...
There's nothing more unpleasant than getting killed by glitching through a wall and falling 30 feet to the ground from inside a building, or running from an INVISIBLE zombie, or falling to death because you slid off the roof you were on while trying to find a ladder down. This game is in Alpha, and I understand that, but some things are just inexcusible.
A good example would be the inventory system. Is the way things can be sorted in your backpack realistic? Yes. Is something as simple as eating that can of beans on the table easy? NO. First, you have to pull up your inventory. Then, (if the can on the table even shows up at all) you need to drag your can opener (or substitute, like a screwdriver) to the can. Then select "open canned beans with can opener". Then remove whatever is in your hands. Then you need to right-click the can, then (if you're lucky enough that it gives you the option) select "take can into hands", then wait for it to appear in your hands. Then you need to right-click the can, wait for the option to appear, and select "eat". Eight steps, for a simple task that should take two, "open" then "eat" (I realise that there is an option to "eat" before putting it in your hands, but that does nothing until you do so, and if you already have something in your hands it glitches out and just adds extra steps to this).
-BASICALLY (TL;DR)-
This is a great game already, and has the potential to be even greater. It's a decent bang for your buck, if you're willing to deal with the glitches, framerate drops, and tedious inventory system. But if you can't deal with that, then I would suggest holding off on it for a while. It'll be more expensive, but you'll get a more stable experience.
FINAL VERDICT: 9/10 MUST PLAY +DEFINITE POTENTIAL (IF YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT GLICHES).
