"All tracks are boring / generic / too easy"
- Advanced, more fun maps are unlocked by playing the advanced tutorials, a.k.a "License Mode". You can also choose to play ONLY these harder maps when matchmaking.

"Drifiting is useless / not rewarding. It only serves to slow you down"
- You can boost after you finish drifting, it's called "Instant Boost". You would've known if you paid attention to the tutorial, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

"There's a lot of cheaters on Item Mode"
- My matchmaking connection is set to unrestricted and I haven't found a single one so far. Though, the game is f2p, so there could be some out there. Kinda skeptical about this one.

Yes, there's a lack of players, some things feel rough (like getting stunned for too long after getting hit with by an item), and there could've been more stuff outside of the gameplay loop (there was supposed to be an upgrade system from what I've read), but this is my first time experiencing this game and I'm having a blast so far. Game seems really promising, we just need a few updates with new content and gameplay fixes from time to time.

Overall, a really good game. Free, no P2W mechanics, runs smooth even on a low-end setup, and it's a great alternative to kart racing titles on PC if you, like me, are still waiting for CTR Nitro Fueled to get ported over.

I wish I could write individual reviews for each game, but since I bought the Treasure Trove bundle, guess I'll have to write them here. I'll try to keep these as short as possible.

Shovel Of Hope:
The main campaign. This is the very core of the Shovel Knight titles, so you absolutely need to start on this one. It's gameplay and level design draws inspiration from famous NES titles, most notably Mega Man and Castlevania. The game also handles difficulty spikes well, giving inexperienced players an easy time and providing a fair challenge towards the endgame. After beating the game, you'll also unlock New Game + mode, which challenges you to beat the game again but with a twist in its core gameplay loop.

Plague of Shadows:
A decent side campaign. In this one, you play Plague Knight, one of the characters present in the Shovel Knight universe. This campaign has a story of its own, and it develops Plague Knight's character as a whole. It has a different take on the gameplay: you're now focused around throwing projectiles and manipulating how said projectile's function (ex.: do you want a bomb that explodes on contact? maybe a timed one? a different throwing arc? blast radius? etc.). It highly rewards experimentation and thinking outside the box. Stages are the same, but with a few tweaks here and there to better suit Plague Knight's playstyle. Also has New Game + .

Specter of Torment:
An alternate full campaign. You'll play Specter Knight, another character in-universe. Personally, this might be the most difficult entry of the series (it doesn't mean the game is hard , just harder than the rest). Gameplay has changed completely, focusing a lot more in "parkour-type" movement and precise platforming, like wall-running, wall jumping, grappling, etc. It also has a story of its own, developing Specter Knight's character and giving us some backstory to the main plot from Shovel of Hope. Stages are entirely new, given the setting and gameplay changes. Also, New Game + .

King of Cards:
Another alternate full campaign. You'll play King Knight, yet another character in-universe. Trust me when I say this is the most different you're gonna get from all entries, and that you should play all the other ones first. Instead of the usual 2D platformer where you jump around, hit enemies and stuff, get this: you'll traverse the scenario by charging onto walls , bouncing off them , and bouncing off grounded obstacles . It sounds weird, but it is incredibly fun. Because of that, level designs are really creative and unorthodox. It also introduces a new gimmick: Joustus, a card puzzle mini-game located at the end of each area. This might be a bummer for some people, since you're required to play Joustus in order to proceed. Grasping the concept of it and learning how to play it, plus the high difficulty spike, may be frustrating for some. But if you're willing to take your time and bear through it, you'll have an incredible experience. New Game + .

Showdown:
DON'T. GET. THIS. GAME. If you're going to buy Treasure Trove, then fine, guess you don't really have a choice. But if you're buying the games separately, forget about Showdown . It tries to be a platform fighter/party game, but chooses to retain many aspects from the main titles that doesn't work inside the concept of a fighter/party game.
  • First, characters can only throw specific attacks from their arsenal (which in theory would make sense, to balance everyone out, but...), making some characters REALLY GOOD against EVERYONE ELSE, simply because they have better, more convenient movesets.
  • Second, the game has no defensive option other than parrying. Pressing any shoulder button will trigger a parry stance, and if you get hit in it, you'll push back everyone around you to a safe distance. But the parry is active throughout ALL the stance animation frames, there's LITTLE end lag when the stance is done (meaning you can spam parry), and getting a confirm RESETS the end lag, so that you can parry again afterwards. You basically get punished for trying to hit people, in a game where you're supposed to hit people.
  • Third, the CPU is NUTS. They can read all your inputs, perfectly time parries, stun lock you and zone you off... on NORMAL difficulty. Paired with the fact that some characters are blatantly overpowered, playing Story Mode is more frustrating than fun.
  • Fourth, most of the content (characters, stages, etc) has to be unlocked through beating Story Mode with certain characters. That wouldn't be a problem, if replaying 9 stages against cheap ass characters over and over again, wasn't such a stress.
This game might be fun with other people, but playing alone just plain sucks. And since there's no online multiplayer (local only), you can't even play with friends the practical way. All in all, this one just isn't worth your time.

A melee-inspired game, except, unlike any other smash-like games, this one is really good.

Featuring:

-Fox, except he's a lion
-Falco, but he's a mix of Marth and Meta Knight (also has Captain Falcon's Down-B)
-Bowser, but in this game he's good and has some neat gameplay mechanics
-Absa, or should I call it Mew-chu?
-Shadow clone jutsu
-An orca (... I mean, why not?)
-A polar bear that will f*** you up really hard
-Maypul

And now for the DLC:

-Frog Sheik
-Hyper Light Lucina
-Koopaling Gear Solid: Snake Eater
-A wild doGGo appeared!

I remember the day I bought this game and thought to myself: "There's no way a game with such simple aesthetic can be that hard."
