Early Access Review
I am writing this review during the 0.3 patch, The Third Edict. I can't help but feel genuinely excited about the direction Path of Exile 2 (POE2) is heading. Having spent over 2200 hours in the original Path of Exile and 244 hours in POE2, I can confidently say this is the most fun I’ve had playing any ARPG, period.

The most notable thing about Path of Exile 2 is how much more accessible it feels compared to its predecessor. The learning curve that initially turned some players away from the original has been refined, making it easier for newcomers to dive in while retaining the deep complexity that veterans like myself adore. And that’s not even mentioning how much smoother the overall gameplay is, thanks to improvements in both the mechanics and user interface.

I’ve found a build in POE2 that has completely captivated me. It’s the kind of build that feels satisfying in every way: powerful, dynamic, and visually rewarding. Both of my characters have hit level 90+, and I feel like there’s always something new to work towards. The variety of ways you can approach character progression is insane, and gives the game incredible replay value.

One of the standout aspects of POE2 is the ongoing, responsive development from GGG. The recent announcement of the 0.3.1 patch shows that the developers are truly listening to the playerbase and working tirelessly to make improvements.

There’s no doubt in my mind that POE2 is on track to be remembered as the greatest action RPG ever made. The depth of customization, the vastness of content, and the constant sense of progression make it a standout in the genre.

That said, no game is without its flaws. My primary complaint with POE2 is the visual clarity, especially in high-action moments. With so much happening on screen, it can sometimes be difficult to other players, enemy projectiles, and detrimental ground effects such as burning and chilled ground. This can make combat feel a little chaotic at times, especially in large fights. While it doesn’t detract from the overall enjoyment, it’s an aspect I’d love to see improved. Performance can also be an issue, even on high-end systems. Despite having top-tier hardware, I’ve experienced frame drops and complete disconnection from the server. It’s not necessarily a game-breaking issue, but it’s something worth mentioning, as it can hinder the overall experience.

Path of Exile 2 is a remarkable evolution of the Path of Exile series. It combines the best elements of the original with new, innovative features that keep the game fresh and exciting. If you’re a fan of ARPGs, there’s no question that POE2 is a must-play experience. With its ongoing updates, deep customization, and intense action, I believe it has the potential to set the new standard for the genre.

System Specs:
- Intel Core i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti
- 4K Samsung display

- This game currently runs at about 44FPS in most areas with the most recent graphics drivers.
- Mobs ice skate on land.
- Combat system leaves a lot to be desired.

Anyone who says the game is "beautiful" can just look at this screenshot from "Ultra" settings.

Ultimately, and unfortunately, I had to return this game.
