A Hidden Gem with a Tragic Flaw

The rumors are true: the story is unfinished. I’ll admit, I don’t know much about this series but even I couldn’t help feeling let down by the ending. Apparently, I was playing the final mission—news to me—because the credits just casually rolled up like nothing happened.
There’s a ton of side quests in the overworld, which isn’t a problem on its own. But when you compare that to the unfinished story, it just feels wrong.
Like most LEGO games, there’s a plethora of bugs to be found. However, in comparison to the Lord of the Rings game, they’re few and far between. Personally I had to use Steam Achievement Manager to unlock the "Ever 'The People's Champion'" achievement which is rewarded to you after completing all side quests. I spent about an hour searching the internet and couldn’t find a solid solution for this. For all you 100% completionists out there, I’d recommend steering clear of the 2x stud code—it’s more trouble than it’s worth.
My final bone to pick with this game is the resource farming mechanic. It's actually a neat mechanic however it seems like more of an oversight once you complete the story. I won't say say too much here.

At the end of the day, I did enjoy this game. Sure, using the achievement manager was a bit of a headache, and the story? Devastating. But despite all that, the game offers a lot. The world is stunning, the voice acting is solid, and the soundtrack is fantastic. There are definitely areas that could’ve been improved, but honestly, it’s still a charming and beautiful game that’s hard not to appreciate.
