I love reading through the encyclopedia in the game, almost as much as picking up calls that managed to send a chill down my spine a couple times.

Definitely an experience worth the price and time, including DLC.

I did not expect the game to amaze me so much.

The movement is smooth, especially after *spoiler*, and combat is intuitive. Just trust me the mechanics are quite satisfying in this game. But forget about that for a second, let me talk some AWOOGA.

The visuals in this game welcome you in a retro setting, there are options that let you remove the filter and remove the animation fps cap so it becomes modern and smooth. Game plays and feels great in both settings.
Character design spits fax for itself, also bonus, you can put pants on in accessibility options which is cool. The full outfit seems something like baggy high-end suits if you opt in for the pants. Looks pretty cool.
Best couple dollars I have ever spent in my life, no doubt. I love it.

Look, man. I get it. The game has a good story to tell but jesus christ maybe let players play every now and then between the unskippable half-hour cutscenes. I just whip up infinite scrolling apps during cutscenes after like 3 or 4 minutes.
Game is ok tho, I do like walking for long times in the snow, no sarcasm. Environment is great, characters are... mostly interesting. EXCEPT THAT PRIEST. THE PRIES JUST DOES. NOT. SHUT. UP.

I don't think it's worth playing if you don't like walking. I am conflicted about this game. Narration would have been fine if it was a tediously slow progressing tv show. As a game it's just meh. Presents a good and balanced change for survival though.

I don't know why I'm even writing a review but I guess I just wanted to say I absolutely loathe the cutscenes and dialogues as a majority of dialogues fall as dry as Nevada.

Tried this during a free weekend. 21 fps max with an average of 14 on RTX 2070 Super + Ryzen 5 3600, lowest settings.
Also tried high to see if the downgrading is the only part that was bad, with a little bit of messing around with all video/graphic settings I made it to stable 48 fps, 10 the moment I dropped into a game. I have no idea what the game feels like to play.

I really, REALLY, wished to like/love this game but the game just won't let me. I really liked the gameplay when I could play (queue or performance issues w/e) and I liked the characters, abilities and the weapons. I love how the game looks too.

But

Nevermind the first week, the launch and whatever, I can excuse all of that.

For however long I was able to play before all the lagging and stuttering began I enjoyed the game. Then it became unplayable as my high-end PC suddenly couldn't reach over 12 fps. Just before writing this review I tried to play again, to my surprise the frames were not dropping below 75.
Alas, the game will simply refuse to be played. What it shows on screen does not match whatever it thinks, as enemy and player movement and attacks are visibly in sync and what hit I should get misses and what hit I should have been able to parry registers as a hit. Quite frustrating.

Yeah, it is in early access and most probably these will be fixed but I can't for the life of me recommend this game as it currently is. Early access exists to let players get to know the game and decide if they want to support the game's development or not, it is unfortunately often seen as an outright charity.
Even if it was a straight up charity concept, I wouldn't damn any charity to funding this game.

It took me about 7 and a half hours, it was in one sitting and usually I don't do these types of games in one sitting. I just could not stop.

Captivating story telling with twists that are foreshadowed but aren't obvious. Just the kind of detective thriller that really gets the theorizing going with revealing juuust the tiny bits of the mystery.

Definitely worth playing, when you do get to walk around the station you'll see it looks, feels, and even smells 1987. The radio operator aspect is tailored into the detective work in such a way that it is not a chore, but an enjoyable experience. You get to pick songs, you get to flip through a modest collection of records and put them on your turntable. You run ads through casette tapes.

Overall a thrill to play.
